INSPIRATION FOR THE ORIGINAL SERIES THE LINCOLN LAWYER—THE #1 TV SHOW ON NETFLIX

Defense attorney Mickey Haller and Detective Harry Bosch must either work together or die as they investigate a Hollywood lawyer's murder in this "epic page-turner" (Library Journal).

Things are finally looking up for defense attorney Mickey Haller. After two years of wrong turns, Haller is back in the courtroom. When Hollywood lawyer Jerry Vincent is murdered, Haller inherits his biggest case yet: the defense of Walter Elliott, a prominent studio executive accused of murdering his wife and her lover. But as Haller prepares for the case that could launch him into the big time, he learns that Vincent's killer may be coming for him next.

Enter Harry Bosch. Determined to find Vincent's killer, he is not opposed to using Haller as bait. But as danger mounts and the stakes rise, these two loners realize their only choice is to work together.

Critic reviews

"The Brass Verdict has the sneaky metabolism of any Connelly book. It starts slowly, moves calmly, hides pertinent bits of information in plain sight and then abruptly ratchets up its energy for the denouement....In the midst of this new story, Mickey rebounds with a vengeance....Like Harry Bosch's mojo, Mickey Haller's is liable to work well for a long time."—Janet Maslin, New York Times
"Connelly is firing on all cylinders in this epic page-turner. The intriguing story line, the chance to view Bosch from another perspective, and Haller's reappearance as a main character add up to a fantastic read. One of the best thrillers of the year."—Jeff Ayers, Library Journal
"The answer to every Connelly fan's dream: Hieronymus Bosch meets the Lincoln Lawyer....By turns wary, competitive, complementary, cooperative and mutually predatory....Connelly brings his two sleuths together in a way that honors them both"—Kirkus Reviews

Good story if too long

I enjoyed the book, and decided to invite my husband to join me after about 4 hours of listening, maybe more. He dove straight in (around the jury selection bit) and honestly, didn't miss anything. It could have been a lot tighter.

Mickey Haller & Harry Bosch together! Great!

I really liked this book. I've read quite a few Harry Bosch books & a couple Mickey Haller, whom I like even more than Harry (though my favorite books of all are The Poet and The Scarecrow -- starring Jack McAvoy, the reporter with a minor role in this book). I knew I'd read several Haller books but didn't know where this fell one fell in the timeline till I looked it up after I was done reading.
I was captured by this story. I had read The Lincoln Lawyer but didn't remember Mickey's substance abuse/rehab... Was amazed when Harry showed up and mentally urging Mickey to work with Harry, but, of course, Mickey has to protect his clients. Enjoyed the investigation and ins and outs of this case, the jury panel selection, the expert witness and I was aligned with Mickey just about every step of the way. Thought his defense was brilliant. I, like Mickey, forgot his maxim: Everybody lies. Wow.
The only ripple was Mickey told Bosch he was in for the night and then responded to a call to help a rehab friend. I would have called Bosch to say I was going out. Guess I'm a color-within-the-lines kind of person. All my sense were alert and screaming. Exciting sequence follows and I sure didn't see coming the reveal of the mastermind! And the other reveal at the end -- WOW!
Distressed when Mickey said he was giving up his job because I wasn't sure where this book fell in the series but found a list of books on a website and realize this is only the second and I've read two later ones (The Fifth Witness was so-so but really liked The Gods of Guilt), so very glad Mickey revisited that decision.
I just loved Mickey Haller & Harry Bosch together. The only way it could be better is a book where Mickey DEFENDS Harry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sure wish there were another Jack McAvoy book.... Maybe one WITH Mickey Haller in it too.... But I really enjoyed this book. I'd even read it twice!!!!!!

I love all of Michael Connelly's work

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I am redundant in saying I love all of Michael Connelly's work--all of his series. He develops characters, keeps them strong and clearly defined and then has action packed complex plots. I highly recommend all of his books to anyone who enjoys a good read...but start at the beginning of each series.

Not a Bosch Book

Although a very good book with a great ending dont think that this a Harry Bosch book.
Bosch is in it but only in a very small capacity. Still recommended.

Nice Blend of Harry Bosch & Mickey Haller

The story had a quick pace and lots of twists and turns. I liked the evolution of the relationship between Harry Bosch and his half-brother, Mickey Haller.
