Publisher's summary

In six minutes, one of us would be dead. None of us knew it was coming. So says Wes Holloway, a once-cocky and ambitious presidential aide, about the day that changed his life forever. On that Fourth of July, Wes put Ron Boyle, the chief executive's oldest friend, into the presidential limousine. By the time the trip came to an end, Wes was permanently disfigured, and Boyle was dead, the victim of a crazed assassin.

Eight years later, Boyle is spotted, alive and well, in Malaysia. In that moment, Wes has the chance to undo the worst day of his life. Trying to figure out what really happened takes Wes back to a decade-old presidential crossword puzzle, mysterious facts buried in Masonic history, and a 200-year-old code invented by Thomas Jefferson.

But what Wes doesn't realize is that The Book of Fate holds everyone's secrets. Especially the ones worth dying for. The Book of Fate. What does it say about you?

Good book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book was a little slow to get started, but it was interesting once it capitaved my attention. Narrator was relatively good, although I have heard better. He did NOT detract from the story, however, as some narrators can.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to Scott Brick reading other books, and this is my least favorite performance of his...however, it was acceptable.

Had a headache towards the end of the book

What did you like best about The Book of Fate? What did you like least?

Interesting Story, but I didn't like any of the characters. Especially Wes, a whiny guy. Ihave no idea why Nicko was part of the story.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Don't have so many verbal interruptions by the characters dialogue. This was so annoying towards the end. I swear there were over 1,000 verbal interruptions though out the book. The characters were constantly being cut off by one another.

Which scene was your favorite?

Can't remember

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Any additional comments?

Could have been a lot better.

long and slow moving

I purchased this book because I live in the DC area and thought it would be fun to listen to a fictional story based in DC and written by someone who is very familiar with the area. However, the book is long and incredibly slow moving. Half way though it, I had to take a break from it and listened to John Grishom's "The Innocent Man" which is an incredibly well written book, so much so that I found myself looking forward to my metro ride so I could get back into the story.

While I finished "The Book of Fate", I wasn't nearly as anxious to get back to it as I was with "The Innocent Man." While it's not poorly written, it's not exactly gripping or fast paced. The characters are pretty well formed, and it's an interesting premise, but it could have benefited from more editing.

A Great Listen

This audiobook grabs your attention right away; no need to wait even five minutes to "get into it." Held my interest throughout the book, despite its long length. The narrator does a great job in putting appropriate personality in the characters, and is easy to listen to. The subject is a bit of a spawn from "The DaVinci Code", but only as a backdrop, and not the main storyline. Overall, a good and engaging book that will hold your attention for all the hours...

Brad Meltzer and Scott Brick are a perfect match, if you haven't already; listen to the Culper Ring series, it is well worth the credits!!
