I think I like it...for the most part

Would you try another book from Laurie R. King and/or Jefferson Mays?

I've bought other of Laurie King's books, and as a rule, liked them. I will probably do so again, but I'm only about half through the book at this time, and I am reserving judgment. I'm in general a big fan of mysteries, some of them the "thriller" type, but for the most part just good old fashioned detective fiction.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I'm not sure--there's definitely an overall "creepy" tone that I normally don't enjoy as much. I was already tempted to abandon the book, but I've managed to convince myself to stick with it a bit longer. It's possible it will take a turn for the better, but so far, it's been a bit daunting and maybe it's just that it's a bit outside my usual taste.

What does Jefferson Mays bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I enjoy the narration, but I'm pretty tolerate of most narrators.

Really good book

Would you consider the audio edition of The Bones of Paris to be better than the print version?

The first ten minutes or so of this book's reading seem to drag on. But wait, after that, it turns out to be an exceptional mystery thriller. Really good story which keeps you guessing as to who the bad guys really are. Narration was excellent as well.

Great read!

Love the characters and the plot is fascinating. I especially like hearing about places I have visited such as Shakespeare and Company.
The narration is fantastic. I will definitely read the other book in the series.

As I listened I kept hoping it would speed up and get on with the story. I will say the last half of the book did move faster. Could not give this one 5 stars.

Not Good

No way you can make this plot sensible. Clues, situations and events appear out of thin air.

Brilliant evocation of Paris in 1929

Laurie R. King makes 1920s Paris alive in this story of Harris Stuyvesant's search for young Pip Crosby. He follows Pip's trail through amusement parks, coffee shops, bookstores, an eccentric aristocratic mansion, a taxidermist's lab, and the gut-wrenching experience of the Theatre du Grand Guignol. Jefferson Mays's narration communicates the sounds, sights, and smells of a wide range of settings and characters. Mays gives voice to King's masterful storytelling. Dare we all hope that we'll hear and read more about Harris Stuyvesant? I do!

Fantastic, Creepy Adventure

What a fantastic "listen"! My only regret is that Audible didn't make it clear that it was the second in the series, so now I have a pretty good idea of what the first one is about, without the pleasure of actually reading it. I'll have to decide if I want to read/listen to it.

Creepy, creepy, creepy, but also fascinating and detailed. Really interesting to read King writing not in the voice of Mary Russell--she seems to be having a wonderful time doing it! Her writing skills are top-notch, and her plot walks the fine line between different points and conversations that hint at the answer and keeping the tension going. The reader was fantastic, which truly topped off the experience.

Highly recommended, but not for the faint of heart.

A Little Tedious At Times

I love Laurie R Kings Mary Russell series so when this book popped up I wanted to try it. I am afraid the book is a little too much scene setting for my taste. The story could have been told in half the time. I also thought Ms King could really develop the character Bennett Gray more as he could have put a whole new dimension into the storyline. A total wash out? Not by any means.....but could have used a little more.....umph.....

Interesting yet drawn out

The story was interesting, yet a bit drawn out in places. All of the French was a bit over the top for me. It would be a good listen for someone who has traveled to Paris and enjoys murder mysteries. The narration was excellent.
