Publisher's summary

Present day: Julia Hamill has made a horrifying discovery on the grounds of her new home in rural Massachusetts: a skull buried in the rocky soil - human, female, and, according to the trained eye of Boston medical examiner Maura Isles, scarred with the unmistakable marks of murder.

Boston, 1830: In order to pay for his education, medical student Norris Marshall has joined the ranks of local "resurrectionists" those who plunder graveyards and harvest the dead for sale on the black market. But when a distinguished doctor is found murdered and mutilated on university grounds, Norris finds that trafficking in the illicit cadaver trade has made him a prime suspect.

With unflagging suspense and pitch-perfect period detail, The Bone Garden deftly traces the dark mystery at its heart across time and place to a finale as ingeniously conceived as it is shocking.

Solve another case with medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles.

Loved it!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I have listed to this book at least 5 times, and each time, it is thoroughly enjoyed. Very much enjoy the details of the medical profession years ago and how those details relate to the story. A must read for sure!

The Bone Garden

I thought this book was very interesting. I loved how it went back in forth between past and present. I work in the medical field and I thought that it was very interesting to hear how they did things back then, even if fictional. I would highly recommend this book. It was probably one of her best books. I have read them all and really enjoy her works.

Fascinating premise

This novel is a fantastic blend of fact and fiction. The story of a “serial killer” in times past includes historically accurate individuals and situations blends with a current day novel of discovery and rich characters. I truly enjoyed listening to this, even went out in my car to listen a couple of times! Mystery, history, murder, warm characters you care about. 5 star!

Loved It!

The author takes you on a journey through history that has you feeling as if you were there. You can appreciate the struggles of the working class during that era. The narator is good but sometimes had the same sounding voice for different characters which sometimes made it hard to follow. Overall a great read.

exceptionally clever !

It is always a pleasure to have a book make me part of the emotional crisis that is happening - the Bone Garden is superb at it - the emotional rollercoaster is amazing and the story line full of delectible tid bits of information to contemplate as you listen. The end has a couple of surpises and I love the back and forth from present to the past - was easy to follow chapter by chapter. One of the few books I just could not stop listening too. Would love to see this in movie form - was not disappointed because Maura was not really in it. The book really grabs you and is historically informative as well....

A lot of potential

This is a good book, weaving together historical characters, the plight of women, mystery, romance, changing society. It could have been a GREAT book. More character development would have helped. A little less sappy romance.

Too bad the editorial staff did not take more time with this one.

I have found me.....

... a new favorite crime author. I listen to audio books while walking my dog, and never has my dog had so long walks! I just couldn't turn the player off. I can't wait to get her other books - just need to clear my calendar!
