Publisher's summary

In this concluding book of Adrian McKinty's highly praised Dead series, Michael Forsythe confronts his former lover and archrival, Bridget, a New York Irish Mob boss.

Michael has survived his infiltration of an IRA splinter cell in Boston, and now, his many near fatal wounds healed, he begins his next adventure as manager of hotel security in Lima, Peru. It is there that he is contacted by Bridget, whose fiancé he killed.

Bridget, calling from Dublin, says that her 11-year-old daughter has been kidnapped. Michael's choice is to fly to Dublin and help her find the girl, or be executed at the hands of Bridget's goons, who are holding him at gunpoint. He agrees to nothing, but is soon on the way to Dublin, leaving the first two of many dead bodies in his wake.

Don't miss these other noir thrillers in the Michael Forsythe series: Dead I Well May Be (Unabridged) and The Dead Yard (Unabridged).

Critic reviews

"[H]is most visceral, satisfying effort yet....McKinty writes masterful action scenes, and he whips up a frenzy as the bullets begin to fly." (Publishers Weekly)
"[O]utpaces its immediate predecessor, The Dead Yard...with [McKinty's] trademark dark lyricism, one great red herring, and a masterful plot twist that brings Forsythe's character full circle in a lightning flash." (Booklist)

Another goodie!

This is my third book listened to by McKinty. Great story and even better reader. Michael has evolved into a great character and really does fascinate me. I like two of these so much that I relistened to them again right after I finished the first listen.
Can't wait for the next one. McKinty has become my favorite autor to listen to and the reader Doyle is simply terrific.

Bloody great!

I love the narrator and if you not yet listened to the Mick Herron series - get right on it. This book is a wild ride with a wonderful dry sensibility. Highly recommend as long as you are fine with a little blood tinged thrills.

Gerard Doyle’s talents.

I appreciate Adrian McKinty’s ability to capture Northern Ireland during the era of the Troubles.

Action-packed

The story had good action keeping interest and yet, it was too bloody for me.

Third and Last Installment

Does not disappoint. Excellent job weaving prior storylines to create continuity for the conclusion. Narration is spot on. My new favorite Irish accent narrator! Highly recommend this book and the two others in the Dead series.

Good series.

Interesting story and character. Great narration. The phrase Peelers is now part of my vocabulary.

A great short series

McKinty is a strong writer whose descriptions and philosophical underpinnings lift his books above standard genre fiction. That being said, he writes a great suspense novel.

Is there such a thing as too much action?

Is there such a thing as too much action? This goes from one attempted murder to another repeatedly to the point where it’s just ridiculous and boring!!
