Publisher's summary

In this concluding book of Adrian McKinty's highly praised Dead series, Michael Forsythe confronts his former lover and archrival, Bridget, a New York Irish Mob boss.

Michael has survived his infiltration of an IRA splinter cell in Boston, and now, his many near fatal wounds healed, he begins his next adventure as manager of hotel security in Lima, Peru. It is there that he is contacted by Bridget, whose fiancé he killed.

Bridget, calling from Dublin, says that her 11-year-old daughter has been kidnapped. Michael's choice is to fly to Dublin and help her find the girl, or be executed at the hands of Bridget's goons, who are holding him at gunpoint. He agrees to nothing, but is soon on the way to Dublin, leaving the first two of many dead bodies in his wake.

Don't miss these other noir thrillers in the Michael Forsythe series: Dead I Well May Be (Unabridged) and The Dead Yard (Unabridged).

Critic reviews

"[H]is most visceral, satisfying effort yet....McKinty writes masterful action scenes, and he whips up a frenzy as the bullets begin to fly." (Publishers Weekly)
"[O]utpaces its immediate predecessor, The Dead Yard...with [McKinty's] trademark dark lyricism, one great red herring, and a masterful plot twist that brings Forsythe's character full circle in a lightning flash." (Booklist)

Gerard Doyle’s talents.

I appreciate Adrian McKinty’s ability to capture Northern Ireland during the era of the Troubles.

Good story; Charming reader

This was my first book by McKinty, and I will download the others.
Michael goes about the most outrageous business with humor and introspection and with that lovely Irish lilt. It would be hard not to be captivated by it all.

Adrian McKinty is now on my favorite author list

This continue the story started by "Dead I Very Well Maybe". You will want to hear this one, an excellent listen with all the right Irish and NYC accents. The story has a big twist at the end. I heard this in 2 days and all my yardwork got done.

I love this guy!

This book, like the others in the series, is not only a suspence novel, a crime novel, and an adventure novel. It is also a wonderful development of character. Granted, the character is violent, but the level of self-interrogation in this book goes far beyond the normal suspence, crime, action thriller. And the narrator captures the novel's voice in an excellent way.

A good end to a GREAT trilogy !

The Michael Forsyth comes –regrettably- to an end. Hardboiled, dark and with high doses of violence, this is not however the typical “noir” book. The main character (Michael Forsyth) -that sets, so to speak, the tone of the story- is “one of a kind” and a young man of his time : street-smart, instinctive, naïve, at times quasi-poetic, ruthless.
McKinty is a terrific writer . He creates marvelous sense of place and atmosphere and his characters are so amazing and well crafted that first surprise and then stay with you for a while.
I have enjoyed tremendously the book and have read it avidly. However, I must also say that this is the weakest episode of the trilogy. The book is fast-paced, too fast-paced actually, as if the author was in a hurry to get it done.
I need to move on to other McKinty books, hoping that they are as good as these ones.

So sorry it's over

I'm always looking for a new author and series and settled on the 3 books about Michael, ending with this one. I was hooked from the beginning, and although I planned to leave a gap between each novel to read other things, I couldn't. I was completely taken in by wonderful language, intelligence, plot and characters. My husband asked me, "What is it about this series?" as he began the first book, but soon he was hooked as well. I highly recommend this "Dead" series, and I will next try different Adrian McKinty titles hoping to be drawn in equally. These were an excellent find.

First Rate Narration Elevates This Novel

If you could sum up The Bloomsday Dead in three words, what would they be?

Irish Crime Story.

What other book might you compare The Bloomsday Dead to and why?

Other Adrian McKinty titles, especially the prequels.

What does Gerard Doyle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's masterly when it comes to portraying different characters in the story with changes in his voice, accent and inflection. I believe I care for or dislike the characters the more for this. He's among the very best narrators I have ever heard.

Any additional comments?

Good for those who like crime stories and who aren't going to be turned off by a morally ambiguous protagonist. The narration is first class. And who doesn't love to listen to an Irish brogue?

Another great read from Mckinty

I love Adrian McInty's books.. They are complicated and have a comedic edge to a thrilling story. Excellent performance by Doyle.

Mesmerizing

I just finished this Michael Forsythe trilogy and am now into "Falling Glass". This is my first experience with Adrian McKinty and I have to say he has become one of my favorite authors. These books are incredibly fast-paced with enthralling story lines and well-developed characters. I am a big fan of James Lee Burke and although an entirely different writer than McKinty, the novels contain many similarities - the evil of humankind, the prevalence of shocking sectarian violence, and heroes who possess great strengths as well as great faults, who struggle with personal demons as well as societal demons. One other point about the narration which is critical in audio books; Gerard Doyle is to Adrian McKinty as Will Patton is to James Lee Burke. Splendid combinations.

Winning story

I could listen to Gerard Doyle recite a grocery list and be enchanted. Mckinty's portrayal of characters is superb. Good storyline but charming participants and excellent delivery
