May 1992, and after four LAPD officers were acquitted after the savage beating of Rodney King, Los Angeles is ablaze. As looting and burning take over the city, law and order are swept away in a tidal wave of violence. But under threat of their lives, homicide detectives like Harry Bosch are still stubbornly trying to do their job. With no effective police presence on the streets, murder just got a whole lot easier - and investigating them got a whole lot harder.
Escorted by National Guard soldiers from murder scene to murder scene, Harry and his colleagues are only able to do the bare minimum in terms of collecting evidence. And for Harry that's not enough. When he finds the body of a female journalist executed in an alley, he cannot accept that he will never be able to bring her killer to justice, and her tragedy starts to eat into his soul. But then, 20 years later, Harry finds himself working in the Open Unsolved Unit, and suddenly the past comes back to haunt him once again, in a way he could never have imagined.

I need some C8H10N4O2
A very good read, Harry Bosch is back and on form. I'm a recent fan of Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series, but I've now read the whole series. This ranks high among the series and I can recommend everyone to read it, not just the fans.
Having read/listened to all the Bosch books, this is by far the best story so far. I really liked how Michael Connelly has created a story from the past and brought it into the future. Similar to a couple of others since bosch has been in the open unsolved unit. But this story had me hooked from start to finish. Great story that comes together very nicely. Connelly is a genius the way he puts all this together. From Bosch starting with one small clue that leads him on a journey to find the truth.
As always, Harry Bosch.
Absolutely. Was hard to stop this when I had to. But got through it in two days.
Please keep them coming Michael. I am at a loss without my fix of Bosch's determination and skill for finding justice.
Hi, I work in I.T. and am a freelance photographer. Just love this site, and always happy to discuss books, photography or just plain life. Feel free to drop me a line, I'm always looking to meet interesting people.
complex plot, realistic policing, fast interesting plot. Great characters.
Harry off course, this guy just will not stop, ever.
He simply sounds the way I imagine Harry to speak.
Yeah, but that would give away the plot. Needless to say Bosch gets himself into very sticky situations.
If you are a Bosch fan, download this one, you will love it...
Another terrific story with plenty of surprising twists and turns.
Brilliantly written. Superbly narrated (performed) by Michael Connohie.
A man's got to do what a man's got to do..
I felt that the last few Michael Connelly novels were disappointingly repetitive and far less exciting than the first ones. The plots were not credible and lacking interest. The character of Hyeronimous Bosh was also fading and lacking the intensity that used to make him so attractive.
The Black Box reconciles me with both Connelly and Bosh ; i listened to the book in 48 hours and -to say the least- i really got into the story.
Welcome back H Bosh !!
Cussler, Connelly, Clancy I like all with a C ...
Harry Bosch is still the best around even though he gets sometimes misled in perception of some things
The plot is interesting and far reaching
Your sins will resurface
The ending was a bit too ... awkward? Action movie like ...
they make me chortle. I didn't chortle all that much. It was just average.
I loved this book, after listening and reading 20 or so books from Connelly in the last six months it amazes me that his work can remain so fresh, especially since the bulk of his books share Bosch as the main character.
I loved Mc Connohie's character voices, it certainly added to the excitement and tension of the work.
"Not bad, but..."
I have always enjoyed Michael Connelly's books, and the story of this book isn't bad, but not the best. The narrator however I found extremely irritating. The way he read the book was like a sixties american newsreader at times - especially early on n the book. So either he gets better or I got used to it!
"Not classic Bosch but still very good"
This isnt an absolutely class Harry Bosch tale but it is still very well written, plotted and read. The plot has a gratifying number of red herrings leading you off in one direction before doubling back. I cant say more for fear of spoilers! So recommended but not the right story to start with if youre a Bosch newcomer.
"As fresh as ever!"
Another Harry Bosch, as he nears retirement. The story was gripping and the narration added to the experience, which is not always the case.
I was disappointed in this Harry B book. The pace was very slow and over a 10 hour read it wasn't until the last hour and a half that it picked up and caught my attention. Up untiI then I never had difficulty in putting it down. Generally I like Micheal Connolly and the Harry B books but this wasn't one of his better ones.
"Bosch is at it again"
Harry Bosch continues to do what he does best. Relentlessly pursuing justice whilst rebelling against conformity. Once again the powers that be are against him. Connelly again keeps the story flowing whilst being extremely insightful , it's difficult to stop listening. If you like Bosch you won't be disappointed.
"I'm getting hooked on Harry!"
Great story again and I am now comfortable with the narrator, although I wasn't sure initially. A really good listen. I'm on to the next one now !
"Love Harry Bosch"
Michael Connelly is auto buy for me.Each time I see a new book from him, I am very excited. This book did n`t disappoint either,I hope he continues to write for a very long time.
"A great Bosch Story"
I love the intricacies of the Bosch stories and this one is full of him following tiny little clues that become very important. Even if you have never read a Harry Bosch book, this is a great one.
"More Classic Bosch!"
20 years after the event Harry sets out to solve the murder of a female photojournalist during the 1992 L.A. riots that followed the verdicts in the Rodney King case. Harry had originally investigated the case but it was subsequently passed over to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved.
A new narrator for the Bosch franchise – Michael McConnohie seems well up to the task.
Another excellent outing for Connelly's irascible detective that certainly won’t disappoint
This story kept me listening to the end. I stated to listen on a journey by myself and the 12 hours disappeared .if you have never read or listened to any of the Harry Bosch storys this isa good one to keep you guessing.Thank you Mr Connelly
