Publisher's summary

In a case that spans 20 years, Harry Bosch links the bullet from a recent crime to a file from 1992, the killing of a young female photographer during the L.A. riots. Harry originally investigated the murder, but it was then handed off to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved.

Now Bosch's ballistics match indicates that her death was not random violence, but something more personal, and connected to a deeper intrigue. Like an investigator combing through the wreckage after a plane crash, Bosch searches for the "black box", the one piece of evidence that will pull the case together.

Riveting and relentlessly paced, The Black Box leads Harry Bosch, "one of the greats of crime fiction" (New York Daily News), into one of his most fraught and perilous cases.

The reader was great

I thought the readers of this book was very good, and I intend to look for other books, written, or read by him. The story of Cours was excellent.

Interesting name & theory for title

Different story type than the other Harry books. Brought his daughter into the story lines and she is promising as an ongoing character

Good Fun

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, in both hardback and audible formats. Narrator took a little getting used to the first book he read, but by the time he got to this title, I was enjoying his performance greatly.

I miss Len Cariou's narration!

Would you listen to The Black Box again? Why?

No, I wouldn't listen to The Black Box again as once is enough for me with the chosen narrator.

What didn’t you like about Michael McConnohie’s performance?

Any additional comments?

I love Harry Bosch's persistence in seeking out murderers for the sake of victims and victim's families. His fly-in-the-face of bureaucrats and politics gives him character and depth.

Not the very best in the series, but still good

I've read or listened to all of the Harry Bosch stories (and I miss Dick Hill). This one held my interest and was worth the time - and it wasn't the very best in the series. Don't start with this one. Go back if you haven't already learned all about Harry.

Good but...

I obviously like the author and series or I wouldn't have gotten to book 18. I have to say however, that this was my least favorite. Still good but, at least to me, not of the caliber I have become accustomed to. Especially the books have undergone many changes in narration. To me it is very distracting. As opposed to, let's say the "Prey series" which has one narrator for 20+ books. Again, very personal and completely subjective with many other listeners disagreeing I'm sure, however the narration, allthough flawless in diction, is very monoton to the point of boring and definitely had an impact on the overall enjoyment of the book. Again, this is extremely subjective to my taste and not meant to trash the narrator.

Cracked the Black Box

Harry Bosch at his best, in deep doo-doo with his quirky boss(es) and getting results. There's a little international flare, the victim is European, but this 20 year old unsolved murder is all California based. I listened with interest and completed it in a couple of days. Meanwhile, Harry tries to raise his daughter; I wonder if Harry will get another wife?
