Publisher's summary

In a case that spans 20 years, Harry Bosch links the bullet from a recent crime to a file from 1992, the killing of a young female photographer during the L.A. riots. Harry originally investigated the murder, but it was then handed off to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved.

Now Bosch's ballistics match indicates that her death was not random violence, but something more personal, and connected to a deeper intrigue. Like an investigator combing through the wreckage after a plane crash, Bosch searches for the "black box", the one piece of evidence that will pull the case together.

Riveting and relentlessly paced, The Black Box leads Harry Bosch, "one of the greats of crime fiction" (New York Daily News), into one of his most fraught and perilous cases.

One of Connelly best !

Michael Connelly is the best crime writer working today. I've read all the Harry Bosch books when they first came out in print and now listening to them on Audible. They still hold up even now.

New reader, I really miss Len Cariou.

Would you listen to The Black Box again? Why?

No, don't like new reader.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Black Box?

Discovering Len Cariou was not reading.

How could the performance have been better?

Bring back Len Cariou

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

NA

Any additional comments?

Only about 1/3 throught the book, thought i would warn Bosch fans about the reader change. I pre-ordered the book and didn't notice the new reader. Wonder what happened to Len?

Great story - Bosch continues his Mission

In the Black Box, Michael Connelly artfully delves deep into the character of Detective Harry Bosch. Navigating his career in the drop zone, he takes on Cold Cases from the LA Riots, now 20 years cold. The only break is found on the sole white victim, and when political pressures try to get him to drop the case because of how it would look to have only a Snow White cleared in time for the anniversary, Bosch resists, butting heads with the new captain. The case is personal, because 20 years before it was on Bosch's plate when the body was just fresh during the middle of the riots. Despite the investigation by internal affairs, meant to turn Bosch to the will of the 10th floor, Bosch and Chu dig deeper, until Bosch finds a link that makes him go to California's Central Valley to find the murderer of a young Danish reporter.

I enjoyed the narrator.

Looking forward to the next book.

Tight-paced, suspenseful, believable. Grabs you and won't let go. Detective-novel afficionados and Bosch fans will love it.

ANOTHER WINNER

I REALLY ENJOYED THE EXCITING STORY AND HARRY'S ALWAYS PUSHING THE LIMITS. HE GIVES HIS BOSSES AT
RHD A HARD TIME AS USUAL, THIS ONE PARTICULARLY DESERVED EVERY UNCOMFORTABLE 'PAIN' HARRY CAUSED HIM.
I LOVE FOLLOWING ALONG WITH THE LOCATIONS AND TIME FRAMES OF CONNELLYS BOOKS. I WAS WITH LASD AT THE
SAME TIME AND REMEMBER THE DATES AND SEEING THE SMOKE RISING IN THE SKY JUST SOUTH OF DOWNTOWN.
I DROVE NORTH ON I-5 TO STAY WEST OF THE LONG BEACH FREEWAY BECAUSE THAT WAS THE TIMEFRAME CARS WERE
TAKING BULLETTS FROM UNKNOWN SHOOTERS AS THEY DROVE IN THE AREA. AND HERE IT IS THE MAIN STORYLINE
OF THIS NOVEL. EVEN HARRY GOING INTO THE CENTRAL VALLEY YEARS LATER FEELS RIGHT. ALL THE CHARACTERS
FEEL REAL. I WAS PREPARED FOR THE CHANGE OF READERS WHICH CAN REALLY CHANGE THE FEEL OF A BOOK,
BUT I THOUGHT THIS READER, ALTHOUGH NEW DID A GOOD JOB AND I WAS COMFORTABLE ENOUGH TO LISTEN TO
THE ENTIRE BOOK IN ONE NIGHT AND DAY. THANKS TO MICHAEL CONNELLY FOR GIVING US SO MUCH GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. I AM ON MY SECOND GO-AROUND WITH ALL THE HARRY BOSCH BOOKS. ALL GREAT.

Another Terrific Tale

This is another well written and professionally performed audio book
Harry is on a cold case and does not let police politics keep him from finding the killer of a foreign correspondent during the LARiots
They were a scary time and I experienced them in person briefly

Started slow but got better

Like many other reviewers, I found the narrator to be extremely monotone, and because of that the story was difficult to follow. However, almost to the end of the story, the narrator improved, and the book finished off on a high note. Still a fan and looking forward to the next of the series.

Another excellent book!

Great story & narration. Connelly doesn’t disappoint, as usual. Narrator dies a good job of representing the characters and emotions.
