Publisher's summary

Who's afraid?

Alex Cross battles the most ruthless and powerful killer he has ever encountered: a predator known only as the Wolf.

Alex Cross' first case since joining the FBI has his new colleagues stymied. Across the country, men and women are being kidnapped in broad daylight and then disappearing completely. These people are not being taken for ransom, Alex realizes. They are being bought and sold. And it looks like a shadowy figure known as the Wolf, a master criminal who has brought a new reign of terror to organized crime, is behind this business in which ordinary men and women are sold as slaves.

You're afraid.

Even as he admires the FBI's vast resources, Alex grows impatient with the Bureau's clumsiness and caution when it is time to move. A lone wolf himself, he has to go out on his own in order to track the Wolf and try to rescue some of the victims while they are still alive.

As the case boils over, Alex is in hot water at home, too. His ex-fiancie, Christine Johnson, comes back into his life-and not for the reasons Alex might have hoped.

Full of the unexpected twists and heartrending surprises that James Patterson delivers better than any other suspense writer alive, The Big Bad Wolf is an unforgettable thriller.

Good but ending disappoints

Like many of James Patterson's books, particularly those in the Alex Cross series, the story is fast-paced and interesting but the ending is a disappointment. It's almost as if several of the books in this series just hit the wall in the last 20 pages or so. Too bad.

All in all, worth listening to if you are an Alex Cross fan, though...

Can't believe the poor ending

The story was decent but I feel cheated by the ending. It is as if the author suddenly got tired and decided to end the book. There is no conclusion. We are left hanging. Dissapointed.

Alex Cross is the best!

I love this story! I enjoyed that I was not able to predict the story. Alex Cross has a scary understanding of the criminal is out of this world. This is a fast moving book. Never a dull moment.

Great performance and story.

I love James Patterson. He can write a mean suspense book, however why the cheesy sound effects? The performer and story hold their own. There is absolutely no need to add sound effects to a novel. Those belong in a theatre. In a book, sound effects are just distracting.

Mind Trippy Suspense

I loved this Novel. Alex Cross was at his best. The FBI twist was a good addition. The reading was excellent. The Wolf as very real.

Good time with Alex Cross, story not worth it.

I really like the Alex Cross character that Jonathan Kellerman has developed and, in fact, he's at his very best in this novel. But the story is just brutality and one act of banal evil after another. Turns the stomach. Too much acting out of just sheer torment, not so much that it's graphic, just that it IS. Nobody wins. That may be realistic (?) but I prefer a bit of redeeming happiness, joy or triumph in my reads. There is some effort made towards that end in this book, but then even that is spoiled. Sorry, but this is no heart-warming, victory-laden story. Not at all.

Great Book

This book is one of James Pattersons best. The reading was wonderful. There has to be a second book. I can't wait to see if Alex get the Wolf and gets little Alex back.

Criss-Crossed

I feel that I got criss-crossed with this book. It was no where near the ongoing series of Alex Cross dramas. Felt like the suspense was in quick sand and waited for something to happen , it did , then chapters of almost falling asleep. I'm surely not afraid of this Big Bad Wolf , unless the author brings him to life and scares the heck out of us. Maybe it was winter hiberation for this wolf-like creature but I want more of the old Patterson mode to wake me up.
