Disclosure: This book was generously provided to me by the Author in Audible format in exchange for an honest review. Of which I will try to do my best.
I was assured that this book was a 'clean read' but still romantic with a mystery. This I found very intriguing as you don't find many such books. I love my mysteries but put up with the explicit scenes. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was well written, though much too short for my liking. Usually I'm left wanting more after reading such a short book. But with this new series Linda Weaver managed to pull off the following. The mystery of the missing person that they try to uncover slowing, the slow and gradual growing understanding and appreciation of Amelia and Rick and the growing romance between William and his lady friend. All of which seem to happen simultaneously, as they follow William's diary. You've the MIB bad guys following them and the beautiful Bali island that is described in such a way that you can picture the scenery in your minds eye. I also enjoyed the Bucket list that Rick convinced Amelia on starting. I definitely have added Bali to my Bucket List!!
I can't wait to be able to read more of the Amelia Moore titles, I've noticed that they are available on Kindle but not yet on Audible. I think I'll wait for the Audible versions to come out as I really enjoyed Diane Lehman's narration. She's got a beautiful voice and I'll surely be looking for more titles by her.
I love reading, I come by it naturally. My grandfather was a school teacher and writer and the rest of my family are huge Bibliophiles.
I loved the relationship between the two detectives Amelia and Rick. I think they work great together and their attraction is strong and written well.
I like that it was nice and light. There was no major crime scene and didn't make want to stop reading it. In fact, it was so pleasant and fun, I didn't want to stop reading it.
Rick was my favorite character. He had so much personality and reminds me of just a grown boy. I love his bucket list, who doesn't have one right?
I could definitely listen to this in one sitting if I had the time. It was fast and sweet.
I received this free audio in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed it and look forward to other books in this series.
I listened to this from Audible so my review will be both about the book and about the reader.
This book puts the cozy in "cozy mystery". This was a nice sweet mystery/romance that is light on the mystery but heavy on the cuteness. A very clean, fun, quick read (or listen in my case).
Great character development. I really liked Amelia (love that name!) she was sweet, smart, firm but didn't have a "bad-ass" personality. She seemed nice, like someone I would befriend. I enjoyed getting to know her and look forward to more!
I loved Rick, right away. Now he is a man who knows what he wants (Amelia, LOL) and goes after it, but is not forceful. He is nice, understanding, supportive, and a little romantic. The kind of guy I like.
This book/audio had a lot of references to the movie "South Pacific", which I loved. I have seen the movie. It's not one of my favorites but I do like it and could remember all the references. It was fun.
I also loved their "bucket list". Some of the things on Rick's were Parasailing, Safari, and Trekking through the rain forest. I have never made a bucket list. There are some things that I have been wanting to try - zip lining, for one! I hope to do it this summer. PA has several places you can do it.
Do you have a bucket list? What's on yours?
I have read a couple of Linda's books before (the historical fiction series) so when Linda asked me if I would like to try an audio, I jumped at the chance. I have been wanting to do more audios anyway.
OK so now for the reader - I liked her, but didn't love her. This is pretty typical for me! I very rarely find a reader that meets my expectations. They don't usually sound like I pictured the character to sound like, and this was the case here. But I thought the reader did on OK job, definitely not the worst I've heard.
I have told Linda that I would love to listen to the next in the series so come back for the next audio review of - The Shamrock Case.
Thank you Linda for sending me this audio version of your book for my honest review.
This was an entertaining detective mystery/romance. What I appreciated about it was that it was "clean." There was no foul language or graphic sex scenes. That is kind of refreshing, especially since I was listening to the Audible audio version, and I didn't have to worry about my young children overhearing my book. The romance was very "sweet," sometimes a little over-the-top, but I guess that is what new romance looks like in real life, too. I liked the setting of the story, which mainly took place in Bali. I think this is a good start to the series, and I'm excited to read about their next adventure. Also, the narration was quite good - good pacing, good character differentiation. I would definitely read other books by this author, as well as listen to more books by this narrator. If you like romance, like "clean" books, or like detective mysteries, I would recommend this one.
The bali mystery is a story about Amelia, a private detective, who is hired to find a woman's brother. Amelia brings her "friend" Rick with her to beautiful Bali, where the brother has last been heard from.
This book was a classic cozy mystery, replete with clean dialoque, romance, and sometimes cheesy dialog and situations. Altogether, it is a fun and easy listen. I loved the scenery, I loved the ending.
Dianne Lehman did a fine job as a narrator. Her voice is a little pitchy, but it seems to fit the story.
I really enjoyed the dialog between William and his bride about race and cultural differences.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Very interesting. Great description of characters, and places. Fun and exciting story.
Yes, this was an exciting story. Not knowing what would happen next. With Great Adventure and Action going on.
When Rick is teaching Amelia self-defense. When she does something wrong, Rick has her up against the wall or pinned, then he gently kisses her. It's a little romantic and kind of funny.
Exciting Adventure, finding a missing person, on the romantic island of Bali!
Great mystery. The story really had you guessing what would happen next. It was Not a boring, predictable mystery. Much more exciting then that.
This story starts out strong. It lays the characters and plot quickly to entertain your curiosity. Once you start listening, you don't want to turn it off.
The narrator created the individual perfectly! Love the picture created by both author and reader.
I recommend this book to teens and all. Very entertaining and believable. A must have for your collection.
I enjoyed how Clarke developed this world visually, intellectually, and imaginatively. She gave readers a complete, 3D picture of the setting, and then allowed her intriguing story to shine through. The plot was exciting and well developed. Clarke’s well written narrative drew me into the tale. Everything was well developed without giving too much away.
The main characters are fun and easy to get to know. I enjoy how we get to know them gradually throughout their adventures. It gave me a complete picture of who they were, both individually and together. Not only were they fun individuals for this story, but they were truly realistic. I loved feeling like I was getting up close and personal with them throughout.
The narrative in the audiobook really made the tale enjoyable as well. I found that the narrator really brought the story to life. Her vocalization really drew me into the story.
This was a nice clean, quick read that was also stimulating and exciting. Clarke has definitely created a fun novel that has drawn me into her series.
I received an audible copy of this book from the author in return for my honest opinion.
I did enjoy the story and found Amelia an engaging and spunky protagonist. She didn't back down and learned how to defend herself. It was also fun to watch her relationship with Rick develop. At first it was all business but as the case progressed they realized they had feelings for each other. To note it is a very clean, sweet romance.
The mystery was a surprise. Amelia and Rick were flying blind most of the story with their search for a missing person as their only clue. It all came together nicely in the end.
The only issue I had was that, at times, the grammar would pull me out of the story. In normal conversation people use contractions , no one says, "I did not know that."
All in all a pleasurable read and I would be interested to see where things go with Rick and Amelia.
I thoroughly enjoyed the audio edition. This is the first time I've ever listened to Diane Lehman and she delivered a professional performance. She has a clear pleasant voice which she utilized well to differentiate between the characters. Extra KUDOS to her as she sang quite convincingly more than once as both a male and a female. So... while I'm sure I would have also enjoyed the print edition, Diane's contribution enhanced the audio edition.
I would recommend THE BALI MYSTERY to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries. If you also enjoy traveling to exotic locales, it's a must-read! I understand that this private-eye team travels to Ireland for their next missing person case! I want to go with them!
I have never listened to Diane Lehman previously so I cannot compare. I will say that I would not hesitate to pick up another book narrated by her.
Return to Bali High in this cozy romantic mystery!
THE BALI MYSTERY by Linda Weaver Clarke and narrated by Diane Lehman was a fun, clean cozy romantic mystery set mostly in Bali, Indonesia. Incorporated into the story are fascinating tips about Bali with visits to its temples, jungles, active volcanoes, shopping districts and more! There's even a primer on negotiating with Bali merchants! Readers will meet a few sweet elderly ladies and some guys in black suits who could be mistaken for the super-secret government agents in Men in Black. Fans of South Pacific will love this tale as there are many references to the famous musical included.
