Publisher's summary

My name is Amelia Gray, and I'm a cemetery restorer who lives with the dead. An anonymous donor has hired me to restore Woodbine Cemetery, a place where the rich and powerful bury their secrets. Forty years ago, a child disappeared without a trace and now her ghost has awakened, demanding that I find out the truth about her death. Only I know that she was murdered. Only I can bring her killer to justice. But the clues that I follow - a haunting melody and an unnamed baby's grave - lead me to a series of disturbing suspects.

For generations, the Devlins have been members of Charleston's elite. John Devlin once turned his back on the traditions and expectations that came with his birthright, but now he has seemingly accepted his rightful place. His family's secrets make him a questionable ally. When my investigation brings me to the gates of his family's palatial home, I have to wonder if he is about to become my mortal enemy.

Mixed Feelings - Series finale ?

Where does The Awakening rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

First 3 books in this series are the best, This book parallels book 2 in many ways, but weak in comparison.
1. Too many similarities between Jonathan Devlin and Pale Asher. Old Devlin tries to confuse Amelia about the death of Johns wife and daughter, but Amelia acts like book 3 never happened. She knew things from Robert Freemont about their deaths that made what Jonathan Devlin said meaningless. And the phone calls from the sinking car that never happened. Did author forget all about book 3?
2. Amelia and John want no more secrets, and come clean in this book. But they don't because again book 3 is forgotten. Amelia tells John she has seen ghosts since she was nine, and he makes the comment "But you never told me", and replies that he never seemed receptive due to his time working with the elder Shaw.
Again, in book 3 she did tell him everything when he finally had to let Shani go. Some how after he was shot, he forgot everything.
3. Last, is it Essie Goodwin or Goodwine. Previously it was Goodwin, now 6 books later its Goodwine.

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes I listened to this narrator many times and like her.

Any additional comments?

See no where for this series to go from here, so am assuming this is the conclusion of the "Graveyard Queen" .
ending was rushed and unremarkable.
I listened to this book twice before writing this review, hoping I'd feel differently about this book, but have to admit this book was a bit disappointing.

Always the Best!!!

I am an avid 'listener' of Novel's. In fact, I'd be surprised if I was not one of Audible.com's top ten customer's considering I listen to 1-2 Novel's EVERY SINGLE DAY!!
Yea, I think I have a " proble" just as others are addicted to say drinking Red Wine 😶.
So my point is I RARELY take the time to actually write up a Review, and only do if a Novel's MOST AMAZING AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT AMANDA STEVENS SERIES , ***PLUS IT'S MOST IMPORTANT TO AN AUDIO VERSION OF AN AUTHOR'S NOVEL to become a TRULY GREAT 'MEDIUM' THAT has the uniqueopportunityto reach so many people and IS WAY better than the telly or just reading it toone's self is when there's also an Excellent NARRATOR AND Khristine Hvan with her beautiful South Carolinan draw top's the cake!

Twists, Turns, Chills, and Satisfaction *ahhhh*

This is the amazing wrap-up to a truly mesmerizing series. This story has it all: mysterious happenings, bone-chilling history, liars, cheats, manipulators, murderers, protectors, and lovers. Everyone has secrets. Most of these secrets are dangerous, as well. The specters, entities, and ghosts that Amelia can't seem to shed this time are particularly virulent and sending her some mixed signals. Then there's Devlin, who has made a sudden reappearance into her life. That's such a cause for mixed emotions, it's enough to drive Amelia into a tail spin.

The breathless and just plain heart-breaking moments in this tale make this an exceptional read that will stick with you well after you've finished that last paragraph. Beautiful, rich characters work well with the fast-paced plot for a very satisfying story.

seriously?

First off, the first 3 books were great. Those books got me hooked and I had to see the series through. However, by this book, and the previous, the author clearly ran out of steam. For instance was it just me or did the knock on the door segment take FOREVER!!??!! And it wasn't even that interesting to boot. Also, do you think as a life long resident of a red state the author could hook this poor girl up with a concealed carry permit and a handgun by this point? She's almost been killed in every book, but thank goodness she has a can of mace. wtf? Lastly Amelia became more and more of a pathetic sappy human with each passing book; way to let your character dissolve. This author has nothing on Jeanine Frost, Danika Dark, and many many others. Way too rushed at the end and such a total disappointment. wish I had skipped this series.

Too descriptive but a good story

Overly descriptive but not very deep. Good Story line, could have used more background than descriptions

Hood narrator in need of an abridged version

It’s an interesting setting. However it gets tedious with a plethora of extraneous details and the main character is plagued by whiny introspection. It would have been getter at half its length.

Well developed storylines and series arc

Overall, I’ve enjoyed this series and will recommend it to others. The imagery and storyline for each book and overall arc is well thought out. However, the other side of that coin is that sometimes, too many tedious details are provided. My only other caution is that the main character’s personal monologues are sometimes whiny and state the obvious.
