#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER If you thought Mitch McDeere was in trouble in The Firm, wait until you meet Kyle McAvoy, The Associate

Kyle McAvoy grew up in his father’s small-town law office in York, Pennsylvania. He excelled in college, was elected editor-in-chief of The Yale Law Journal, and his future has limitless potential.

But Kyle has a secret, a dark one, an episode from college that he has tried to forget. The secret, though, falls into the hands of the wrong people, and Kyle is forced to take a job he doesn’ t want—even though it’s a job most law students can only dream about.

Three months after leaving Yale, Kyle becomes an associate at the largest law firm in the world, where, in addition to practicing law, he is expected to lie, steal, and take part in a scheme that could send him to prison, if not get him killed.

With an unforgettable cast of characters and villains—from Baxter Tate, a drug-addled trust fund kid and possible rapist, to Dale, a pretty but seemingly quiet former math teacher who shares Kyle’s “cubicle” at the law firm, to two of the most powerful and fiercely competitive defense contractors in the country—and featuring all the twists and turns that have made John Grisham the most popular storyteller in the world, The Associate is vintage Grisham.

Classic John Grisham

I could not stop listening to this audiobook. I am a long time fan of John Grisham, and The Associate was definitely not a disappointment. His portrayal of a fledgling lawyer in a huge law firm dealing with seemingly insurmountable problems was captivating. I was deeply engrossed from the first word.

It was good, but not as much as I had hoped.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Maybe. It depends on the situation.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Associate: A Novel?

The surveillance was interesting. It was not necessarily a particular moment, but I found what Benny knew interesting.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. Too Long

Any additional comments?

I was hoping for a few additional chapters. I think if there was just a little more closure, then it would have been an amazing story.

The Associates keeps you wondering

Would you consider the audio edition of The Associate: A Novel to be better than the print version?

Undsr circumstances ( temp blurry vision) following with open book allowed me the benefit of both reading and listening. Lstening alone let me get sleepy, by following the printed book I was able to stay awake and retain story.

What does Erik Singer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

More realism

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Physicall y unable to complete in one session. Took several sesessions with a couple of refresher pages. Also one can review previous parts to clarify or verify .An excellent research tool.

Any additional comments?

I might try with other technical books.

Dull

Story line is slow, methodical and I figured out the end way before the end. Very anticlimactic. It’s like Grisham was just trying to meet a deadline. But I won’t give up on his books.

not so good

I read JG long ago and always enjoyed his books. This one just never got going for me. In fact, (no joke) just when I thought I was at the part when the action and intrigue was really going to start...it was over! I was so surprised. That was it! It was very straightforward...none of the plot twists that I had hoped for. Maybe next time?!

i miss the old grisham

it is no street lawyer, king of torts, summons, or painted house. his return from recent departure with the appeal and this book isn't satisfactory. i will continue to follow john only in hopes of reliving the excitement i once had with his brilliant character development weaved into a fast paced modern legal drama.

good read

Good book overall, but the ending is a little underwhelming considering the build up. Love Grisham's overall work.
