Publisher's summary

During an intimate dinner party, a cat burglar breaks into the home of A-list actor Marcus Dowling. When his wife walks in on the thief, the situation quickly teeters out of control, leaving an empty safe and a lifeless body.

The same night, a woman and her infant child are ruthlessly gunned down in an abandoned garage. The killer hasn't left a shred of evidence, except for a foreboding and cryptic message: WCF, the letters written in blood-red letters.

With two elusive criminals on the loose, Detective Lindsay Boxer calls on the Women's Murder Club to help her stop them before they continue their spree. But before they can break either case, the Lipstick Killer changes his act and demands a ransom--not for a single victim, but for all of San Francisco. Lindsay puts her own life on the line--but will it be enough to save the city from this deranged killer?

Lot's of fun and intrigue

If you could sum up The 9th Judgment in three words, what would they be?

Fun, fast paced

What did you like best about this story?

With the usual twists and turns of the Women's Murder Club, this book fits nicely within the series. A nice number of red herrings and twists and turns.

What does Carolyn McCormick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She add a feminine voice that is strong and believable. It wouldn't have been any fun with Betty White reading it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Good but not great

I thought this story lacked some of pizzaz of the previous stories in this series. Though entertaining and worth the listen, it just wasn't as good as others. I would still recommend the listen, tho.

One of My Favorite Series

This is one of my favorite series, and this book was no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story, it was fast paced and easy to keep up with. I was surprised at the ending, and can't wait for #10.

Out for the money

I felt like Patterson was writing for the money and not for the fans or for the pleasure this time. Even the ending was simply to try to lure the diehard fans to read the 10th installment of Women's Murder Club. Friends said they didn't like Worst Case because the children of wealthy people were killed but this story had babies killed so what's the deal Patterson? Do you think you need shock value to get readers? I was so disappointed in this installment --on many levels -- and I wish I could get my money back from him. The hype was definitely not deserved.

disjointed, thinly written; average narration

This book has no depth. The crimes seem to be written for shock value rather than to build suspense. The ending seemed to be written in such a way to entice readers to pick up #10 in the series which is a turn off for me. I want a tightly suspenseful novel, written by Mr Patterson, which is what you get in the earliest novels of the series. But this trend towards writing collaborations has diminished the impact of this series. The characters are more cartoon than real. The stories are simplistic. And the narrator doesn't delineate the different characters enough.
