Publisher's summary

Two young children disappear from their East Side home in New York City, their nanny killed in cold blood. As Lieutenant Eve Dallas begins to unravel the crime scene and search for Henry and Gala MacDermit, she's drawn into the twisted mind of a kidnapper who will stop at nothing to take revenge. Horrific threats concerning the brother and sister hit far too close to home for Eve, drawing her back into memories of her own tortured childhood.

But Eve knows that there's no time to waste on the past, and with every passing hour her determination to bring the children safely home strengthens. Eve and her team find themselves following an electronic breadcrumb trail left by a boy desperate to escape the evil witch. Their investigation into the kidnapper's sordid past reveals violent coercion, ritualistic killings, and chilling bloodlust - making her terrifying plans for the children abundantly clear.

Great short read

This book is a continuation on the other stories she has written. I find they move fast and have fun analogies.

Novella with a Grimm twist

Novella first published in Oct2013 in “Mirror, Mirror” anthology. This one is a play on the Brothers Grimm fairy tales of the evil twin and wicked witch. Dallas gets to be Lt. Good Witch.
Ericksen does a very good job of narration- good differentiation between characters.

Follows Roberts Pattern

What did you love best about Taken in Death?

I am comfortable with In Death series and its pattern. It followed true to course but was much quicker and refrained from the usual love scene.

If you’ve listened to books by J. D. Robb before, how does this one compare?

It was better than some of the In Death series, was a little darker. It was a little different with the fairy tale entwined in the story.

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She did well and her accents were dead on. She brings out the characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Cry some because it involved children and I felt for the parents.

love JD Robb

Would you listen to Taken in Death again? Why?

My husband and I love listening to the Eve Dallas series together

Who was your favorite character and why?

Eve Dallas - she's such a kick-ass cop.

Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen – was your favorite?

I love the way Susan does all of the characters and have several favorites so it's hard to name one.

Any additional comments?

My husband and I would like to see all of the Dallas books made into a Series.

Yay! A Solid Eve Dallas Detective Story!

Any additional comments?

I was so glad that this book was more of a traditional Eve Dallas story, unlike book 37. I hated book 37. This is a good story, nothing earth-shattering, but good. Fun to listen to, good characters etc. I'm glad I got it.

In Death 37.5

I enjoyed this in between the numbers-Taken In Death. Storyline short but sweet, love the way Lt Dallas takes on the bad guy as if the victim belonged to her. Love the narration. I highly recommend this book and series.

A Tasty Morsel, No Meat

An engaging enough story to listen to while working, but nothing new. It would have been better fleshed out a little more. As always, the performance is stellar!
