Editorial reviews

Barbara Rosenblat proves once again why she is one of the top narrators in the profession. She portrays this funhouse of colorful characters with a personable and, at times, gossipy style. Her well-rounded performance includes pauses, knowing exhalations of exasperation, and perfect timing for the many funny observations and jokes of a stand-up comedian. With her experience and talent, listeners can count on Rosenblat to bring an edge to this mystery that elevates the material into a very enjoyable read.

Publisher's summary

Goldy Schulz is thrilled to be catering a holiday breakfast feast for the staff of the Aspen Meadow Library. But little does she know that on the menu, alongside the Great Expectations Grapefruit, Chuzzlewit Cheese Pie, and Bleak House Bars, is a large helping of murder.

While setting up at the library, Goldy spots a woman lurking in the stacks who bears a striking resemblance to Sandee Brisbane - the woman who killed Goldy's ex-husband, the Jerk. But Sandee is supposed to be dead. Or so everyone believes.

Goldy's suspicions mount when the body of Drew Wellington, a former district attorney, is found in a corner of the library with a map worth thousands of dollars stashed in his clothing. She's convinced that Sandee is involved.

But the holiday madness is only just beginning for Goldy. Soon she's drawn into the dangerous, double-crossing world of high-end map dealing. And like the ghost of Christmas past, Sandee keeps making an appearance. Could she be out to prove that revenge is sweet?

okay

I really like this author's book, and this series is a lot of fun. Not crazy about the narrator though. Her kid voice is grating and made some of the characters' voices were annoying. Read these books, you will like them better that way!

So so story with a narrator whose voice grates

This was not one of the best books in the series. I became bored with the story but was determined to finish. I don't really care for Barbara Rosenblat's narration and that really takes away from the story. I'll finish the series but I will read the books instead of listening to the audiobooks.

Goldy isn't so gold anymore

It was okay. I think that Goldy's character is a bit silly and it amazes me that she never ages. Tom as always was very forgiving. I might listen to the next book. The supporting characters are the real draw for me. I think Julian should get his own series. But I guess he is smart enough to mind his own business so that wouldn't work.

Sweet is a Treat

Well read as always.A plot with the twists and turns of an accomplished writer. The only thing lacking is the recipes come at the end of the audio version and not as easily followed as in the book versions. Davidson has captured the "upscale" mountain community west of Denver and its snobs, hippies and suburbanites. The characters introduced in the beginning of her books have the half life of a Travis McGee girlfiend but then the mystery is who killed them.

Great light read - Perfect for the beach!

Reading a Goldy novel is like visiting old friends. Just enough mystery, just enough family life and, of course, great food.

good book

this book should be titled, "if you don't know, shut up" yet again the main character talks to the killer too much to not notice the con being run, but if you knew the number of murder victim the she does, I guess you would be as air headed. being an acquaintance of the main character is like putting your name on a hit list. the story was well thought out, the plot was interesting, and the narrator brought the characters to life.
