Great story full of surprises

Where does Suspect rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

So many plot twists with an underlying urgency to find the killer. I do not usually care for first person stories but I enjoyed this book very much.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like the main character, Joe. He was fighting several personal battles at one time but he forged ahead trusting his instincts. Hold onto your seat, there are many twists and turns.

What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I liked the reader's voice but there was an intermittent clicking in the recording that I put down to reader sucking on a lifesaver or machine clicking. It was a bit distracting but by then I was hooked and hanging on to see where the story went.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Who can you trust?

Any additional comments?

I will be downloading Michael Robotham's next novel, Lost.

Fast moving and entertaining

Is this a great mystery novel? NO. Is it a decent way to spend your listening time? Maybe. It wasnt that original but it did keep my interest. I would have liked a more twisted ending.I enjoyed the performance by Simon Prebble. Wouldnt be my first choice if I had only a few precious credits to spend but if nothing else appeals to you its not a bad choice.

Very different thriller

If you could sum up Suspect in three words, what would they be?

This is a very complex crime/psychological thriller. I would never dream of trying to sum it up in three words. The writer's premise is extremely interesting. At the center, he places a very complete character who is not a detective but a psychologist. This character finds himself involved in a series of crime affecting his clients...he is almost forced to work with law enforcement to solve the crimes in order to extricate himself from blame. Unfortunately his private life is practically ruined in the process

What did you like best about this story?

Joe, the psychologist, is one of the most interesting central characters in a thriller I have met as of late. He is a multidimensional character. He brings the reader into the story. It is impossible not to care for Joe and his family. The relationship the reader develops with this characters gives the thriller an extra dimension (the book is plot driven as well as character driven).

Have you listened to any of Simon Prebble’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Simon Prebble is the perfect narrator for this dark thriller.

I've found a great new series!

Can't believe I've never heard of Michael Robotham before, more twist and turns and suspense than the Grand Prix. Thank you so much, your wonderful book is such a diamond in the rough of awful books and narrators I have listened to lately. Six stars!

Didn't want to stop listening

If you could sum up Suspect in three words, what would they be?

Suspenseful, entertaining, surprising.

What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Simon Prebble is superb! He IS the protagonist. His voice changes for the other characters are subtle, recognizable, and believable -- probably the best narrator I have ever heard. I a hesitating on the next in the series only because Prebble is not narrating:(

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were several times I was caught off guard, in a good way.

Any additional comments?

An excellent story with a great protagonist. I didn't want it to end, even though I was dying to find out the resolution.

Buying book 2 next!

Great plot, great characterizations, good writing, great performance. This book cost me a very late night--but only one because I couldn't put it down.

One of my very favorite series

The Joe O'Laughlin books suit me quite perfectly - a great combination of thriller, psychology, procedure and plain ordinary everyday living. And Robotham is a skilled writer. Cannot recommend them all enough. I'm very sad he has been seduced in recent years by the Bay area and is now adopting an American voice (and a new set of characters to go with it). But as I'm a Brit living here myself I can hardly be critical!

Depressing Listen

With the possible exception of our protagonist's daughter (minor character) there was really no one likable in this listen. While you anticipated justice would ultimately prevail you didn't get that warm and fuzzy feeling when it finally did. There were a few parts of this book that kept me on the edge of my seat but most of the time I was bored. Barely three stars.

slow start, good end

I almost gave up on listening to this because it was a bit slow for my taste, but I'm glad I stuck it out. The ending was phenomenal.
