Publisher's summary

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is a very powerful wizard and a dedicated private eye. He is also a wise cracking trouble magnet. Fueled by a tempest of guilt, sleep deprivation, malnutrition, bad temper and frankly awful personal grooming. Harry is hurtling toward oblivion. According to Harry that is nobody's business but his own.

The Winter Queen of Faerie manipulates him into accepting a case to solve a murder and stop a war between the courts of Summer and Winter that could have literally earth shattering consequences. His own soul is up for grabs. Dresden must dig deep to discover that at time a willingness to accept a little help from your friends, be they a cub pack of werewolves, old loves in sheep's clothing, or a battalion of pizza loving dewdrop fairies, is a very good thing.

Exceptional in all ways.

Fantasy is not usually my preference. Having enjoyed the TV performances some time ago, thought I'd give the Dresden series a try. Thoroughly glad I did. Dresden is a gutsy protagonist. Other characters also well drawn ... Even the fairies and ogres. Plotting is good and narration superb.

IMO, this is the best so far but please begin at the beginning to get the richness of the series.

Finnaly hitting his stride!!!

Let me start by saying that im glad i decided to read the dresden series. It is a fun one. Harry is a likeable character and there plenty of action and supernatural vibes going on for us paranormal lovers. Im pretty new to urban fantasy and actually read the Iron Druid Chronicles first and must say i may prefer those to these. they are definately not the same cut though. These do require us to suspend disbelief but no so much as TIDC and harry is forced to work more within the bounds of reality.

I am currently on book eight of the dresden series and these books have gotten better with each novel. Book one and two were just eh for me and i left to read something else. Book 3 and 4 were better and started to get good. they were good enough to keep me thinking about them even as i read other stuff. Finally at book 5 they hit their stride and im now a full fledged Dresden fan. Book 7 was my favorite so far and Im in it for the long haul.

Fantastic

The Dresden Files really takes off here. it's a great series but Butcher really hits his stride at Summer Night. The character development is excellent and this book really sets the tone for what is to come. The performance by Marsters is epic. This is the series that got me into audio books and Audible.

Wow!

I have loved this series and some how this book is even better than the first three! James masters is great, his vocal range and character voices are fabulous! If this series keeps getting better at this rate it will easily get up there with my favorites like the dark tower series and Amber chronicles!

Great book, okay reader

I love the dresden files series. It's a fantastic world with an interesting character making corny punch lines that are honestly quite funny. The only thing I didn't enjoy about this audio book was a large section near the end-ish about 75% through, where it sounded like the reader has a hard candy in his mouth and I found myself immediately brought out if the book constantly thinking why are you chewing a candy while reading the book?

Absolute knock out

this story was an absolute knock out from the mystery to the character drama to the characterization this book is batting 10/10, on a side note: I hate Morgan and everything he stands for.

Best one so far.

I really loved the story of this one, exploring the fairy world and politics was quite fascinating. James Marsters is becoming a very good Dresden as well.

Brilliant delivery, compelling story

Im a fan of the reader, Marsters', inflections and intent with the story delivery. And once again, Butcher captures a modern day Wizards encounters in compelling fashion
