Great book

As all of James books, I have enjoyed this. It was well performed and an interesting plot. Seemed a little rushed at the end though

Enjoyable escapist fare.

Better than some reviewer gave credit for. Not being a military expert I didn’t notice the reviewed shortcomings. Good escapist fare. The narrator did a fine job,

Subterranean

Great story. This is the second book I’ve listened to from this author and I enjoyed both of them very much. Well worth 5 stars

Always a good story

Another success for Mr. Rollins. Enjoyed the listening and the narrator is ok once you get used to the tone of his voice. He does do a good job at keeping you interested. I like the story and all of the characters.

Great book, BAD Narrator!!

I love James Rollins' novels. Until recently I had only read them in paperback. However, not having as much time, but wanting to read Subterranean again, I downloaded the audiobook. After the first 3 minutes, I had to pick up my iPhone and look to see if I had hit the button that plays the audio at double speed... I hadn't!!! This narrator is talking so fast its like he is on speed!! He barely pauses to take a breath or switch between characters. While he does change accents or inflections between characters, its like he is trying to win a race narrating the novel. I will never listen to a novel narrated by this guy again. What a waste of a good book! Sigh

Just as good as the first time I read it!

Would you listen to Subterranean again? Why?

Well I’ve read it twice already, James Rollins is one of my favorite authors!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Subterranean?

There is not just one, the whole book is suspenseful and full of twists and turns.

Have you listened to any of John Meagher’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He does a very good job in all of them!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No... but I had a few gasps!

Any additional comments?

I love most books that have anything to do with archaeology or paleontology and Rollins books never fail me!

Narrator sounds too young

Warning: Spoilers follow. Story was intetesting and the writing was fine. However, the narrator made everything seem corny. His voice was too youthful and reminiscent of a children's book narrator. (He would be fantastic at narrating kids books, maybe he already does.) Some of the writing didn't help (Aw, shucks mom!) I also felt like the romance aspect was a bit juvenile. If it wasn't for the cursing and mating, I would have thought I accidentally downloaded book intended for school-aged tweens or teens. I think a female reader might feel like this is obviously romance written from a male perspective. No straight-up #metoo moments, but definitely followed the old formula of woman not interested in guy, guy keeps being inappropriate, woman is eventually won over (aka no = keep trying.) I almost gave up on it and was going to return it. I decided to stick it out and, eventually, got used to the things I found annoying. Not the best thing to say about someone's work, but it's the truth - imo. So, I finished it, and it was okay. I probably would not recommend it. The "uncontacted tribe" part was really far-fetched, and the technical explanations were not very plausible, but that's science fiction... I guess. To sum up, just not sophisticated enough for an older adult science fiction reader, such as myself.
