Publisher's summary

Chief Inspector Alan Banks faces his most personal case, from New York Times best-selling author Peter Robinson.

A bullet to the brain abruptly halted a terrified young woman's desperate flight. In her pocket is the name of a policeman whose own life was brutally invaded, mercilessly shaken, and very nearly erased - a policeman who has since gone missing.

The dead woman in the car had been running from something - but she didn't run far or fast enough. Detective Inspector Annie Cabbot would like to question the man the victim was apparently racing to meet: Annie's superior - and former lover - Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks. But Banks has vanished into the anonymous chaos of the city, drawn into a mad whirl of greed, inhumanity, and death by a frantic phone call from the brother he no longer knows. Banks is unaware that the threads connecting a sinister kidnapping with a savage slaying are as thick as rope...and long enough for a haunted and broken rogue cop to hang himself.

One of his most clever, twisting thrillers, Strange Affair attests once again why listeners love and can't get enough of Peter Robinson's novels of suspense.

Banks !

For some reason, banks is one of my favorite detectives. He’s not a superhero, but he’s methodical and perceptive. The only thing I like about what this narrator does is when he has the characters say “whatcha mean?”

Horrid narrator

Keith made even the nicest characters sound nasty, unsavory, snide. I didn’t like spending time with them.

Good storyline , dreadful narrator !!

Oh my what a narrator experience ......all the voices where grating but the female ones were horrendous , it was like listening to a bad over acted drama !!

I stuck with it as I like the author works but after listening to lots of audiobooks this was a greatest challenge to finish.

Another good Banks's story BUT.... I

I didn't not care for this narrator. He made DCI Banks sound like a poof posh & at
times, even a little desperate. The female narration sounded breathless & false. Perhaps I'm too use to Mr. Prebble' s grizzled and animated portrayal...

I liked the narrator fine! Great Story.

This was a really good story. Engrossing also like all books in this series there are social, historical, bits of politics revealed. Things of the time and relationships. I am intrigued how, more and more one gets to learn about Banks and the evolution of his life. Changes within the policing as technology changes, the rising of other detectives and staleness of others careers. The toll on a policeman who has risen to detective banks rank over many years and cases. The hero is so human and real.
