They are the very best at what they do. Peerless. Unmatched. Only fate could bring two such extraordinary people together—or the depraved manipulations of a homicidal criminal who takes lives for the sheer pleasure of watching his victims die.

Luther Kite is a monster among monsters, growing increasingly bored with his kills. So he sets his sights on the one adversary who can offer him a true challenge: Lt. Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels, the best homicide detective to ever come out of the Chicago PD. Jack has brought the city’s most notorious criminals to their knees. But now she may die on hers, in a specially crafted hell Luther Kite has been building for years. Trapped in a nightmare from which none have escaped, Jack has never been so close to death...nor had so much to live for.

Fast-paced, suspenseful, and darkly comic, Stirred brings J.A. Konrath’s Jack Daniels series and Blake Crouch’s Luther Kite series to a riveting, heart-stopping conclusion!

"A good ending to the series"

If you've already reached this book, then you have been reading the Jack Daniels book series for a while and finally, eventually, reached the end. If so, then just do it, buy the book. You want to know what happens, where it ends and who survives. This is a brutal thriller that finalizes all the characters and their stories.

If you're new to the series you don't want to start at the end, I don't think. The book assumes knowledge of the rest of series. Also, this book continues where Shaken leaves off. It's rough to read, very graphic and violent. But this series needs to end with a villain worthy of Jack and the rest of the killers she's come up against.

If you've made it here, then buy it, it's a good (but not spectacular) end to a very fun series. If you're new to the series, it starts with Whiskey Sour and is a very good collection of books. I loved them. Get involved and have fun!

"Dante's Hell Visited in Excruciating Details"
If you could sum up Stirred in three words, what would they be?

    Bloody.
    Cold.
    Intense.

What other book might you compare Stirred to and why?

    Dante's Inferno

What does Angela Dawe and Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I waded through all the blood because they made it easy enough to do so. Had I been reading rather than listening, I probably wouldn't have picked it up after the first break I took.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Why not take a bloody romp through Dante's Inferno?

    Any additional comments?

Calling all sadists. This is the book for you.

The antagonists were drawn with a finer brush than the protagonists...more 'fleshed out' and complete. More motivated. I tired of all the heroine's pregnancy problems, especially since she didn't seem to have an iota of common sense.

There were a few clever/humorous lines I enjoyed.

Mostly I'm just glad the book is over, even if the story isn't.

    "Good but not Great"

First off I have to say I love the series. The characters are well thought out and the plots are just twisty enough to keep my interest. This book would have been great if I had read it instead of listened. I Have gotten use to the voices of characters and when you change them it throws the listening experience off. Phi Gigante is a great narrator and I always enjoy listening to him. But, his voice coming out of Harry's mouth just doesn't cut it. It changes the whole dynamic between him and Jackie. Other than that, the book was exciting and well worth the listen.

    "Really now!"

I cannot believe a story about an 8 1/2 month pregnant woman doing all the stunts she does in this book, caring so little about her unborn child. Still, it was entertaining and worth the read. It does have a surprise ending that I had not anticipated, so that says something for the plot. If you love Jack Daniels and the wit of Harry and Herb, you'll enjoy this.

"My ears still hurt listening to this book."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

NO, the book is to implausible to be taken seriously.

What was most disappointing about J. A. Konrath and Blake Crouch ’s story?

The heroine a 48 year old ex cop, 8 1/2 month pregnant woman with a pregnancy so difficult that she has seizures, AND with an extremely serious pregnancy induced medical condition that places her and her unborn child at risk of dying prior to giving birth, running around town play macho cop "Dirty Harriett" with a psychopathic serial killer. The loving, soon to be father, OK'ing his pregnant "girlfriend" to pursue the serial killer. Police officers allowing an extremely pregnant civilian (ex officer) to be involved in and take control of crime scenes, putting everyone lives at risk. Too many more w.t.f. to mention.

Which character – as performed by Angela Dawe and Phil Gigante – was your favorite?

All the characters were performed brilliantly by Angela Dawe and Phil Gigante. No favorites, all was good.

Could you see Stirred being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    no.

    Any additional comments?

The readings of Angela Dawe and Phil Gigante is the only reason that I gave this book 3 stars. I want my money back!

    "Tortuous"
    What disappointed you about Stirred?

unbelievability in a large number of scenes - the violence just for the sake of shock instead of plot - Way OVER THE TOP

Has Stirred turned you off from other books in this genre?

NO - but it has turned me off from this author. After each book by him, I think "just a little more over the top"

Which character – as performed by Angela Dawe and Phil Gigante – was your favorite?

none - but I love the narrators... they did an excellent performance. but GIGO

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Stirred?

too many to count - it would have had to be a complete rewrite IMO... and this is a genre that I read all the time.

    Any additional comments?

Nothing straight forward about this book except the Torture, Torture, and more Torture mixed in with hospital visits for the 8.5 month pregnant Jack. This is more than over the top in believability seeing the pregnant woman described in the book running the gauntlet in this 'ghost' town. I liked the Jack Daniels books when I started them, but find I'm getting extremely tired of the serial killers that seem to try to oneup the serial killer from the previous book. Seems to me that each book is a little gorier than the last and each a little less enjoyable as well. This is not a series that I would recommend to any of my friends. Even with the retirement of Jack, I can't even say I'll read the author again because I'm afraid I'll run into the same type of writing - shock tactics designed to horrify instead of writing with a good story line.

Would you listen to Stirred again? Why?

This is a one time listen.

What did you like best about this story?

    her partner is always humorous

What does Angela Dawe and Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

they are ok as readers but I like the other interpretation of Herb more.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    no

If you could sum up Stirred in three words, what would they be?

    Thrilling fasinating intense

    Which scene was your favorite?

This isn't a fair question as I have many favs and it would spoil it for a new reader. Jack is amazing and Luther is horrifyingly energetic. Great pairing of characters!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Heck yes!

    Any additional comments?

Sad to see the JD series at it's end, but what an end it was! I like the dual narrators and I'll miss this series.

    "Where's Dick Hill?"

Similar to the previous in the series, however less of a comedic element. Perhaps that's due to the second author. Still good. With no disrespect to Mr. Gigante, when one has listened to an entire series with a particular narrator (i.e., Dick Hill) it's REALLY hard to adjust to a new one. Dick had distinct voices for all the characters (plus, Dick's impeccable comic timing, delivery, and accents), so it was extremely difficult to adjust to the new voices. If this was the first book and Gigante was the narrator, I'd be perfectly happy with him. But, otherwise, it's like having your favorite TV program start the next season with all new actors playing the parts of the characters you are used to. Aaaargh! Note to audio publishers: Pony up the cash - or whatever your issue was - and get Dick Hill back!
