Publisher's summary

For the first time in unabridged audio!

A small Kansas town has turned into a killing ground. Is it a serial killer, a man with the need to destroy? Or is it a darker force, a curse upon the land? Amid golden cornfields, FBI Special Agent Pendergast discovers evil in the blood of America's heart.

Critic reviews

"As usual, Preston and Child deftly mix the real and the surreal, creating an atmosphere in which everything, for reasons we can't quite nail down, seems a tad off-kilter. Call it creeping paranoia, perhaps, or the dreadful certainty that something awful is about to happen. Whatever you call it, it's a recipe for success." ( Booklist)

Excellent suspense masterfully delivered!

I had never heard of the Authors but settled on the book because the Narrator is a favourite of mine.
His delivery was up to his usual high standard and he conveyed the overall sense of suspense perfectly.
The suspense built steadily and the main character was as enigmatic at the end as he was in the beginning.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable book and I would highly recommend it.

Surprise for you at the ending

Would you consider the audio edition of Still Life with Crows to be better than the print version?

never read the book but the audio would get my recommendtions

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Pendergast is an intriguing character and it is fun to listen to how the author spins the story around his unique style.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

many and this one is very good. i would listen to anything by Scott.

Absolutely loved this book

I loved everything about this story it kept me listening for hours needing to know who the killer was. Its a very good listen and all the twang in the narration isn't hard on the ears either.

I am now hooked on this series!!!

although the first two books of the series are fantastic... This book blow them away with its realism.... As you will see, when you get to the end of the book Kama never before has a story then Soul together quite so perfectly with such a perfect ending....
All comes together with the last few sentence of the book... and the last few sentences of this book will leave you shaking your head mama making you wonder why you didn't think of it before....
this author just Perfect story , in the same category as Arthur Conan Doyle or Agatha Christie

Once again the authors take readers underground

This time we end up in underground caves instead of tunnels underneath NY City for the chase of the mysterious predator. A creepy environment for the plot to unfold and a very effective one. Another wonderful thriller that helped the many miles fly by for me. I am hooked!

gory but good

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes.

What did you like best about this story?

It seemed supernatural at first (eyeroll) because I couldn't see how it could be otherwise. Some of the story had a taste of the supernatural but not enough to ruin it. And the perpetrator was very real and his/her story, though horrifying and sad, plausible.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I can't say much, cause I don't want to ruin the story, but the lengths that people will go to in the name of pride and love, is stunning and sickening; as bad as the events get in this work of fiction, reality is sometimes worse.

Any additional comments?

As a parent, I find parts of this story heart-wrenching and still think about this book regularly, as in "what if?". Most books I read or listen to are forgotten as soon as I finish them.

Great combination! Preston, Child, and Brick

This is the second Pendergast book that I've listened to on audio, and have to say Scott Brick was made for this one. The narration was excellent, adding so much to the book itself, which I loved.
The character development in this series can't be beat. You might become close to a particular character, and poof, they become a victim to the villain of the day. That's one thing I like about these books, they are unpredictable. And Pendergast himself, is one of the most intriguing main men, that I've ever read about. You just can't quite figure out his story, and what he's all about, so you go from book to book, trying to find the answer.
Well worth the listen!
