Harlan Coben is back with his trademark combination of pause-resistant thrills and unrivalled insight into the dark shadows that creep into even the happiest communities....
Megan is a suburban mum who once walked on the wild side. Now she's got two kids, a husband, and a growing sense of dissatisfaction. Ray used to be a talented photographer, but at 40 he finds himself in a dead-end job. Jack is a detective who can't let go of a cold case from 17 years ago. Three people living lives they never wanted, hiding secrets that no one would ever suspect, will find that the past doesn't recede.

I have read many Harlen Coban books and found them to be well written and narrated. This one was a real struggle to get through it seemed overly long without much plot movement. The ending was implausible and convoluted. All this was not helped by a narrator who broke sentences into strange short phrases and then pronounced everything with an Australian rise at the end of each sentence!
I love the way the author writes intertwined stories that ultimately pull together. All the way through I was second guessing how it would all pull together and as ever Harlan never fails. I find with all audiobooks it takes a while to get used to the narrator but once familiar with their style it is addictive. I want to run and walk the dog all the time so I can listen to next instalment!
I have read and or listened to all Coben's books and was looking forward to this. The narrator has the most awful monotonous voice and completely caused me to be distracted from the gist of the story.... at a later stage I feel that I may read the book, and perhaps enjoy it better than in audio.
"Good gripping tale"
A very good listen with many twists and turns and I didn't spot the 'villain'! All the characters were believable and well presented.
"Best Coben so far!"
Loved that there where more characters involved in this story.
This has a modern Agatha Christie spirit to it, where you will get a surprising twist at the end.
"No Sam Spade"
I thought it would Sam Spade flat foot novel I ended up being so wrapped in the story I was snatching a listen while cooking or even the 5 min it takes to make coffee. Not the biggest twist at the end but keeps you guessing all the way.
"The Past is Never Over"
Cassie had to leave her old life behind, but the abusive partner she thought she'd got rid of is back. Ray's job is going nowhere when his livelihood is threatened and the local mafia boss's son is missing. How are these three all connected?
