Critic reviews

" State of Fear is one of Crichton's best because it's as hard to pigeonhole as greenhouse gas but certainly heats up the room." ( Entertainment Weekly)
"Michael Crichton's new, can't-put-it-down novel is a first-of-a-kind thriller - a fast-paced adventure based on the notion that a current widespread fear is baseless." ( Forbes)

LOVE THIS BOOK!

Very well researched! The premise is spot on given today’s political influence on environmental issues! A great read!

Spot on

I do not believe anyone has ever collected so much factual scientific fact / data and woven it into such a great story. The author’s epilogue and Appendix are chilling analogies from the past and are applied to the current “climate”.

Don't believe all the bad reviews.

I can't believe all the negative reviews that all the narrow minded politically correct do gooder wannabees have written to trash this suspensful book. They gotta get over the fact that the protaganist is on the other side of the current liberal beliefs on global warming. When I was a kid, we didn't have wind chill factors, heat indexes etc. It was either cold or it was hot. Lets start reviewing books on their good and bad merits instead of whether they are in tune with the reviewers beliefs. I thought it was a great story and well worth the hours of listening. Never a dull moment. I listened and learned from both sides of the global warming argument. I found the book challanging, not written at a level below me. Maybe thats it, they just didnt understand the book.

Wonderful Novel!

Sorry to hear so many were not happy with the novel. I loved it. It confirmed many of my personal observations about society.

I knew the content of this book would not sit well with many. "Strike out" reaction's are a normal reaction for those not able to face facts well. Thank God we are all entitled to our own opinions. I must say, It is hard to dispute the trueth, especially when it's backed with documented facts collected during three years of research.

I agree with another reader who indicates the novel builds slowly. It is well worth the wait though!

Bravo Crichton! Can't wait for the next one.

An Interesting read!!!

While this book may not be of unending layers of depth, nor is it shallow. I found it to be entertaining. I was not disappointed and if you are looking for entertainment I doubt that you will be disappointed.

Some reviewers have complained about the content and if it is correct or factual. The author gives references (amazing for a book of fiction)! Some times books are for enjoyment. This certainly fits the bill, regardless of your scientific or political views. Enjoy.

State of Fear

I've never entered my own review before...read a lot of them before I purchase a book, though. While I enjoyed the book, I will be hesitant to purchase a book narrated by this reader in the future. I don't know whether it was a problem with where his microphone was placed or what, but I could hear every swallow, licking of lips, even heard laughing in the background on one occasion...very distracting! Very poor recording (or, as my husband pontificated, maybe too good). Where is Scott Brick when you need him...I've never heard him swallow and I've listened to almost every book he's ever narrated. People pay good money for these listens every month...clean up the narration...Shame!!!!

Give it a Rest This Book is Great

As I read the reviews for this book I almost turned away. Man am I glad that I didn't. Someone takes the view of research and puts it in a book and gets hammered. Listen to it!!! If your a radical enviromentalist that doesn't like that not everyone shares your ideas, you'll hate it. If you can handle another opinion with an open mind, it is a winner..

Great book, marginal narration

One of the best reads this year. Very gutsy!! However the narration was not well done at all.

Decent read

This book is unlikely to be considered one of Michael Crichton's best books. It definitely has a political argument to make and does not hide that fact. The book fell on sympathetic ears with me, and I believe it does an excellent job of pounding home the point to be careful of conventional wisdom and media portrayal. In giving it three stars I attempted to disregard my personal feelings and agreements with the book's primary lessons. As far as the story goes, it is pretty mediocre for Chrichton but not bad. The narration left a little to be desired due to the mouth noises.

A New Perspective

I thought it was very interesting though it was definitely more educational and thought provoking than entertaining at times. It did raise some serious questions for me regarding the motives and politics behind support for the theory of global warming. I had to agree that celebrities and politicians preaching about energy conservation and recycling while living in huge houses, driving large vehicles and flying around the world is absolutely ridiculous.
