Publisher's Summary

Gloria French was a jolly widow with dyed blonde hair, a raucous laugh, and rosy cheeks. When she first moved from London to the charming Cotswold hills, she was heartily welcomed. She seemed a do-gooder par-excellence, raising funds for the church and caring for the elderly. But she had a nasty habit of borrowing things and not giving them back. They're just small things - a teapot here, a set of silverware there - so it's quite the shock when she is found dead, murdered with a poisoned bottle of elderberry wine.

Afraid the murder will be a blight on the small town, Parish councilor, Jerry Tarrant, hires private detective, Agatha Raisin, to track down the murderer, but the village is secretive, and the residents resent Agatha's investigation. Of course, that doesn't stop the ever-persistent Agatha from investigating and sticking her nose where no one wants it - especially as the suspect list grows. And, as if it isn't enough that Agatha's ex has reentered the picture and the murderer is now targeting Agatha!

With M. C. Beaton's Something Borrowed, Someone Dead, the bossy, vain, and absolutely irresistible Agatha Raisin continues to be a fan favorite.

"Is Agatha Raisin Capable of Lasting Love?"

Agatha Raisin is one of my favorite series. I miss the development of Agatha with a few happy male relationships.

I love these books and this was one of my favorites. I really hope MC Beaton continues to keep Agatha and company around and into trouble for awhile longer.

"Possibly the BEST Agatha Raisin yet!"

The story has many curious twists and turns. Will Agatha even survive this case? Will Roy and James survive? Are there really practicing witches in the countryside? Will Wilkes finally tear his hair out over Agatha's continuing involvement in his cases? Will Carsely finally reject Agatha or fete her because of all the murder and mayhem that always surround her?
In this book, many of the characters finally "grow up". As usual, Penelope Keith's narration is top notch. I spent the entire day enjoying this wonderful audiobook from beginning to end!

    "Favorite Story (so far)"

The story was very good, complicated enough in the main story to keep me interested. With little stories woven through the overall story as it progresses. I appreciated that the police warnings weren't overdone this time (stay out of our investigation or you'll be charged, etc.), it gets old when there are too many. The story did not become bogged down with excessive emotional drama, just enough to make me curious about what each character will do next. I look forward to the crazy friendship/sporadic lover relationship of Charles and Agatha. I think if both of them could grow up just a touch more, they'd make a delightful and surprising husband and wife team. Especially because they're both unpredictable in their own unique way. But for some reason Agatha is unchanging in this area, which is somewhat confusing since she has grown in other relationships. There were a few unexpected characters and surprising events that I really liked. And that is why this is my favorite Agatha Raisin story so far (I've read half the books in this series).

    "Poison, poison everywhere"

Another marvellous adventure with Agatha Raisin. Agatha is hired to find out who poisoned jolly widow Gloria French. But strangely the village closes ranks. Everyone in the village becomes secretive and seem to recent Agatha's investigation. Attempts are made to get rid of Agatha and even her good friend Roy is almost done away with when someone poisons his flask. Soon even her ex, James Lacey is almost done in trying to help Agatha with her investigation. Will Agatha survive this mystery with the whole village under suspicion?

    "Something entertaining AGAIN"

M.C. Beaton keeps me engrossed once again with her wit true to character dialogue. I can feel Agatha's jealousies and frustrations. I can see her scene's details. Penelope Keith's ability to give so many characters unique voices and textures just pulled me in and kept me there. Thank goodness for Audible to be able to listen to this story from San Jose California to Los Angeles and back to Redwood City. I will let my Facebook friends know to choose this story for a fun and intriguing mystery!

    "Agatha Keeps Getting Better"

Agatha keeps getting better. This book had lots of unexpected twists and turns with interesting new characters. As always, Agatha is the glue that holds it all together and sees the mystery to the end. I'm already on to the next book.

    Story
    "WHY PENELOPY KEITH????"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Story is wonderful as usual, yet Mrs Keith who is an accomplished actress, successfully portrays upper class English women chosen to read this is beyond me. All of her so called West county accents are less than desirable. She reads them like she has a mouth full of spit, and voicing a half-wit people.
Please chose someone who is more down to earth and knows that there is not only the posh and the village idiot's voice in British isles.
This way we may be able to enjoy the stories to the fullest.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It was entertaining once you can numb your ears to the reader's voice.

What didn’t you like about Penelope Keith’s performance?

Her accents are awful, her personalization are all mixes up to each other.

Was Something Borrowed, Someone Dead worth the listening time?

    Yes
