Fun times with the FBI

Nothing like a handsome strong fearsome FBI agent and tough sexy US attorney go at each other and tackling a strange mystery that puts them both in danger. This is a fun listen not too intense but just enough action to keep you guessing. Karen White does a good job with the narration. It is a good kick off for this series. Remember this a romance series not an erotic tale. So if you want more of a sexual jaunt this story probably won’t satisfy you. But for light romantic tale with a bit of intrigue this should work. Predictable yes but worth the credit for me yes. If you don’t have a credit get it when it goes on sale

recommend

This was my first Julie James book. I enjoyed the story though I did think it started off a little slow. Enjoyed the two main characters and also the supporting characters. Found myself rooting for them and I wouldn't mind meeting a Jack Palace in person! :)

The narration left a bit to be desired. It wasn't bad enough that I couldn't listen to it but almost. It was impossible for me to loose myself in the story telling because of the narrators constant choppy reading. She emphasizes stops. Almost like reading an old time telegram (or at least how they do it on tv). All her characters do the stopping thing. Her voice isn't bad but the stops really took away from the story for me.

My Favorite Romance Series (so far)

STORY - Something About You is a sexy romance story commingled with an FBI investigation. Due to animosity between Jack and Cameron, the romance moves slowly in the beginning but kicks into high gear by the end. The murder investigation has a lot going on, too, so there's more than just the romance to keep things interesting.

I previously listened to Book 3 in this series, titled "About That Night," which is my #1 favorite romance novel to date. This book is almost as good but not quite. I love this series because I like contemporary romances with smart, sexy, witty characters and also the legal/FBI aspect that is the background for the series. Julie James writes only a couple of steamy scenes into her books, which is just the right amount, in my opinion. The books stand alone so they can be read out of order, but Book 3 (which I read first) had some minor references to Cameron and Jack that were supposed to be updates but meant nothing to me because I hadn't heard their story (It's not a big deal, though).

PERFORMANCE - I wish Karen White would narrate more romance novels. Her natural voice is low enough to actually sound decent when she does a man's voice. I hate it when the couple is getting amorous and Romeo sounds like a wimp!

OVERALL - (Precise rating 4.5) Highly recommended as long as you like or are not offended by hot scenes and a moderate amount of cursing.

Assertive heroine and sexy, sexy alpha hero

Setting: Contemporary, Chicago
Genre: Romantic suspense
Loved the characters and their history is a good background. They were just getting into an I'm-interested-in-you-in-a-romantic way point in a working relationship when Assistant US Attorney General for Illinois Cameron Lynde did something that caused FBI agent Jack Pallas to go off about her on national TV. The budding mutual interest died on the vine with Jack's anger/hatred and his transfer to Nebraska (can you say hinterlands?). Fast forward 3 years and Jack is back in Chicago and his first case, the murder of an escort associated with a US Senator, involves Cameron as a material witness. The suspense fuels the romance which, in turn, amps the suspense. This is a great combination of likable characters and interesting plot with Karen White's excellent narration. She does both male and female characters well, and she doesn't skimp in the secondary people.

This was worth the credit and time I spent.

MUST READ!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would. This is a fun action book with romance thrown in. You can relate to the characters in the story because they go through some of the same struggles of normal everyday people. When it comes to love in this book Cameron and Jack take it to a whole new league.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Something About You?

When Jack wouldn't leave Cameron after she was shot. Even though it ment letting the shooter get away he wouldn't leave her

Which scene was your favorite?

Umm the whole book. It was so good that it had me capture from the beginning.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it is one of those that if you try to put it down you will end up staying up all night to find out what happens to the characters.

Absolutely no romance here

Although the murder mystery was good, the book lacked the romantic part. At first, I thought it was a very slow-burning romance but that was not the case here. Throughout 75% of the book, the two main characters just hated each other. There was not one single romantic gesture towards either each other and then out of nowhere they decide to have sex?? Seriously all they ever did was argue and look at each longingly so it was pretty unexpected when they hooked up. This is by far the worst romance book I've ever listened to.

Something about Julie James’ Books

Something About You: FBI-US Attorney Series, Book 1 was my first Julie James read, and I found it to be entertaining, and credit worthy.

In fact, I believe it to be credit worthy enough to take advantage of the Semi-Annual Sale and purchase the next 3 books in the series. I am currently on book 2.

The story is full of action and romance with a protective FBI leading man who captures the heart of the Assistant US Attorney, Cameron Lynde.

This is not a 5 Star Book in my opinion, but it is a solid, enjoyable read.

Average at best

What did you like best about Something About You? What did you like least?

The book is well written.

What was most disappointing about Julie James???s story?

It was just so average. Change the names and occupations and it could have been any of a number of romance books out on the market.

Any additional comments?

I guess my standards have been set by Jennifer Crusie and Susan Elizabeth Phillips - I just expect more out of a book.

I love this book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I brought it as part of a "special deal" and I love it. I really enjoy series and this book is a perfect start. Both characters are strong people. The woman is smart and doesn't need a "man" to complete her. I'm excited to start reading the series.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters and story line. She did a great job on back story's plot. And also on how they get together.

Which scene was your favorite?

When she confesses who actually got him sent to another state and his reaction.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really. Just enjoyable.

Any additional comments?

Already started the 2nd book. If it's as good as this one, I will buy the rest of the series.

I want those 12 hours of my life back

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Neither a good romance nor a believable mystery/crime story.

What could Julie James have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Much better research. Attorney's father was an educated blue blood who died as a simple beat cop in his forties.....totally unbelievable, as is much else.

How could the performance have been better?

Made female lead alternately bitchy and weak and wispy......not like a strong successful attorney.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Major disappointment
