Publisher's summary

When Anne's friend Kevin asks her to spend the summer at Grayhaven, his parents' new home in Pennsylvania, it seems like the ideal way to complete the book on contemporary literature they have been working on. And Grayhaven, an authentic medieval manor, proves to be nothing short of miraculous. But at the end of three weeks Anne realizes that she and Kevin have not added one new sentence to their book. What is it about this house that is so disturbing?

The ending ruined it for me.

I was enjoying this book until the last bit. The narrator was really good .

No one in the House

I usually like Barbara Michael's,but this wasn't one of her better books. The story was half baked really, not much to it.The narrator did pretty good with the character's & their voices & giving them life but the story was a bit bland.

Barbara is Anne

Barbara Rosenblat captures the nuances and tones conveyed by Michaels' excellent writing perfectly. Must read.

Meandering plot, unsatisfying ending

I always enjoy Barbara Rosenblatt’s performance, but the protagonist’s conclusion left much to be desired. The way she reached it seemed as likely because of mental illness as her ratiocination.

Not my favorite Victoria Holt

I read Victoria Holt books in high school. This particular one didn't age well. I didn't like the narration. It grated on my ears. This is included in Audible for no credits ... I wouldn't have purchased it. I'll be listening to other free Victoria Holt books and hopefully they will be better than this one. I think her period novels aged better.

Loved this all the way to end - then disappointed

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The ending! I guess I'm an incurable romantic.

Would you recommend Someone in the House to your friends? Why or why not?

No. The ending! I want HAPPY endings.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked when Ann arrived at the house, when she met Bea (was she really Aunt Bee of Mayberry? Such a homebody!) When Ann checked on Kevin after he was drugged and the next day they found that mossy bower outside, I was thrilled - & that was probably my favorite . I liked Bea and Roger until Roger started acting so obnoxiously abrasive.

Do you think Someone in the House needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

That would be interesting. Will Debbie start planting flowers & embroidering hankerchiefs?
Will Kevin continue to drift? Will Roger's skepticism ever revive?
Will the psychic control ever be broken? But my favorite character was Ann and I care much more about her than the rest.

Any additional comments?

Again - the ending was a real downer. Such a shame as Barbara Rosenblat's reading is SO enjoyable. I just love her. She's the best.

House from Black Rainbow transplanted to America

The house in this story, Grayhaven Manor, appeared previously in "Black Rainbow." It has now been moved stone by stone from England to America. I really like the writing style and Barbara Rosenblat's narration. No racy romance here, just an entertaining story. I've been buying and listening to all the audible unabridged downloads of Barbara Michaels' books read by Barbara Rosenblat. Now I'll have to listen to the Elizabeth Peters books I've downloaded and haven't gotten around to listening to yet. She really is a great storyteller.

I liked the story but didn't care for the ending. The narrator was good.
