Editorial reviews

Editors Select, January 2013 - With a title like that how can you not be intrigued? Already an international bestseller, Neuhaus's US debut has garnered plenty of pre-release buzz for taking well-worn mystery staples (cold case, small town, unfriendly populace) and artfully weaving them together into something altogether fresh, with a story that keeps readers on their toes till the end. Publisher's summary

On a rainy November day, police detectives Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein are summoned to a mysterious traffic accident: a woman has fallen from a pedestrian bridge onto a car driving underneath. According to a witness, the woman may have been pushed. The investigation leads Pia and Oliver to a small village, and the home of the victim, Rita Cramer.

On a September evening eleven years earlier, two seventeen-year-old girls vanished from the village without a trace. In a trial based only on circumstantial evidence, twenty-year-old Tobias Sartorius, Rita Cramer's son, was sentenced to ten years in prison. Bodenstein and Kirchhoff discover that Tobias, after serving his sentence, has now returned to his home town. Did the attack on his mother have something to do with his return? In the village, Pia and Oliver encounter a wall of silence. When another young girl disappears, the events of the past seem to be repeating themselves in a disastrous manner. The investigation turns into a race against time, because for the villagers it is soon clear who the perpetrator is - and this time they are determined to take matters into their own hands.

Powerful

A captivating story with an excellent depiction of Germany. The narrator's pronunciation of words and accents of each characters made the story more believable. However near the end I was ready for the story to end. The plots were great, but too many for one book. I think a second book to wrap up cliff hangers would have been better.

No I sensed in the beginning that the main character was innocent.

Great Read!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend. It is suspenseful and keeps you guessing up to the end. You think you have it figured out, and then the story takes another turn!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I didn't want to stop listening! I really hoped it wouldn't end.

Any additional comments?

There need to be more audibooks available by this author.

Interesting twists

This book was very good although at times it was a little lengthy. The story line is unique with twists along the way I didn't expect. If you like a mystery this book is definitely one I would recommend.

Loved it

A complex plot with lots of sub plots and no ability to really guess what was going on until the end. Likeable and dispicable characters in one small town. This audio book was gripping and I have signed up for book number 2.

I like it. But I'm a reader & a good thriller...

Would you listen to Snow White Must Die again? Why?

yes

What does Robert Fass bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice puts character in the story. Some narators can't do that. I know it must be hard to be a narator but he's ok

Good story, bad narrator.

How could the performance have been better?

I liked the story. I'm no literary critic, so I don't know how good it was, but I liked it. The problem was the narrator. The story jumps from character to character often, and he barely paused between switching perspectives. If you weren't listening closely, you'd miss the switch and end up lost until you figured out who was supposed to be talking.

His voice hardly changed for each character as well, which made the confusion problem even worse. :/

Twists and turns to the very end

I enjoyed the book, although I am certain if I spoke German, or was more familiar with the German names, I might have given it 5 stars all around. It was a good story that kept my attention though out.
