Publisher's summary

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact, everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life - a time he has never gotten over - is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction.

Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking novel that deftly explores the power of past love and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.

Loved every second

of this book! Performance is perfect. Story is intense, exciting, engaging, and just amazing. You will not regret listening to, in my opinion, one of Harlan Coben's best!!!

well performed

it was a good story overall. After I was finished it
seemed to drag on a tad longer than necessary. It could have ended at chapter 30. By it has a very good ending that makes the reader satisfied. I enjoyed the storyline.

Meh

Not his best work. And the narrator was pretty one note. He could have done a lot more with the story. The was a little too much obsession rather than true love for my taste.

Never met a more unlikable protagonist.

Jake Fisher drives me crazy and this story was a struggle to listen to because his behavior was SO annoying. He prevailed in the end but GOOD LORDT it was a slog.

Superb!

I had trouble stopping. Great story. Performance was excellent. The plot developed. Another success for Harlan Coben.

Absolutely loved it!

I love this narrator, his voice really appeals to me. The story had so many twists and turns that I couldn’t stop listening! And the ending was perfect.

Too Long

While I was somewhat entertained b this tale overall it was just too long and Jake's feelings just too over the top snd stated in overly dramatic voice too many times. it got old.

Okay, not great.

Not up to his usually excellent story telling. It drags and belabor's what would be a pretty good hour and a half Hallmark movie.
