Publisher's summary

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact, everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life - a time he has never gotten over - is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction.

Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking novel that deftly explores the power of past love and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.

“Twilight Zone” type plot

Plot was intriguing enough for me to continue to listen to the end of this book. Many implausible or improbable situations. Jake, the main character, seems to be either paranoid or has discovered his life is all lies. By the end, the multiple characters and subplots are woven together.

Narration was well done.

Not bad - Worth listening to

I read a lot of mediocre reviews on this book so I was hesitant but I liked it. Not mind blowing but definitely worth listening to.

Wonderful ride, kept me guessing along with Jake!

Excellent narrator, I love the timber of Scott Brick's voice. For some reason I thought it was another Myron Bolitar book, and kind of wished it was, but only for the first three minutes!

Not his best

I usually really like Harlan Coben. I have read 5 or 6 of his books, and for the most part have really enjoyed them. Six Years is not one of his best attempts. I thought the story was a little too convoluted, and quite rambling in parts. I really didn't develop any concern for the characters, and found myself checking how much of the book was left to endure rather often. Again, love Coben...just not this book.

A disappointing Coben---a first for me!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, althought I would recommend his other books...except for the young adult ones, wasn't crazy about them either. In my humble opinion, this was not par for Coben, seemed to take forever to get to a point, and the narrator was so melancholy I couldn't stay focused. On the other hand, it was a good sedative.

If you’ve listened to books by Harlan Coben before, how does this one compare?

This is the first Coben I have listened to.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Scott Brick?

I am not that familiar with other narrators, but did not care for Brick.

Do you think Six Years needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

NO.

Any additional comments?

Disappoint is my main comment. Large price for small result.

Couldnt follow well

Might just be me but I felt the storyline was hard to follow. Most of the time I didn’t know what was happening. Hard to follow. Partially because reader doesn’t change his voice for different people talking.
