1993: Under deep cover, Nick Stone and a specialist surveillance team have spent weeks in the jungles and city streets of Colombia. Their mission: to locate the boss of the world's most murderous drugs cartel - and terminate him with extreme prejudice. Now they can strike. But to get close enough to fire the fatal shot, Nick must reveal his face. It's a risk he's willing to take - since only the man who is about to die will see him. Or so he thinks...
2012: Nick is in Moscow; semi-retired; semi-married to Anna; very much the devoted father of their newborn son. But when the boy falls dangerously ill and the doctor who saves him comes under threat, Nick finds himself back in the firing line. To stop his cover being terminally blown, he must follow a trail that begins in Triad-controlled Hong Kong and propels him back into the even more brutal world he thought he'd left behind.
The forces ranged against him have guns, helicopters, private armies and a terrified population in their vice-like grip. Nick Stone has two decades of operational skills that may no longer be deniable - and a fierce desire to protect a woman and a child who now mean more to him than life itself.

This guy is a genius, he takes you on the ride of a lifetime.
This is Andy McNab at his very best, I have all his books and this is a masterpiece.
"Loved every second of it!"
This was such an entertaining book I can honestly say I enjoyed every word of it. Not once did I find my mind wandering, Mcnab's storytelling kept me interested and wondering what could possibly happen next!!
Action packed with a fantastic storyline, Stone begins his adventure in Russia where he and his partner now live, but before the book ends he will find himself fighting in Asia, Moldova and South america.
This is action packed military storytelling at it's best with an exceptional storyline, bravo Mcnab!
"Not his best work"
The author is great at providing detailed and realistic descriptions of the situations faced by Nick Stone and the gritty and down to earth thoughts and motivations of the characters in his book. However neither the start nor the end of this book seemed to make a great deal of sense. Jumping on a plane and traveling around the world because somebody you barely know has disappeared seems just a little too implausible.
It's obviously setting things up for a sequel.
Maybe, but then I like films where you don't need to do a great deal of thinking.
My only criticism is I had to wait an extra year for this to be published. As usual Andy McNab has his character Nick Stone on top form. He fears nothing and when in dire trouble he accepts his lot with no feeling of self-pity or remorse. This time he is fighting for his wife and new born son from Moscow to Columbia via Moldova and the USA. Hopefully there will be another Nick Stone in 12 months time.
"Just ok! A little drawn out!"
Of course, its the first that I have listened too which was a little weak... PT was brilliant as always :)
Just lacked punch... the story built up to a big end and actually was very flat...
Paul Thornley, is brilliant, the best narrator by far, unfortunately no other book stands a chance now if its not read by him five stars for PT
Will still look out for Andy M books but this was very weak... sorry :(
Boring too much detail in the story line the story could be reduced by half
