P.D. James' boods are always a good read. If you enjoyed any of the PBS mysteries with Detective James Dalgliesh, you will want to read this.
I returned this book because the quality was so terrible. Very sad because I was really looking forward to another great P.D. James.
trying to see the world with my ears
After a slow start (which had me thinking that neither narrator nor author was at his/her best), I found myself physically cringing during the description of the standard James' first murder. That's not what I usually look for in a "cozy," but I think it very well done.
Also, if you have any nostalgia for or historical interest in mid 20th century traditional nursing school training, this is fascinating on another level, James' detailed descriptive setting.
Narrator Jayston's pace and tone may not be to everyone's taste, so listen carefully to the sample. Since this early PD James is more about the atmosphere and mystery than Daigleish himself, I wonder if the version narrated by a femal voice might not make more sense, given the number of female characters and setting.
