Publisher's Summary

For generations, the legend has been passed down: a satanic tale of a gigantic hell-hound, a devil incarnate who stalks the wastes of Dartmoor wreaking a blooding and terrible vengeance on the Baskerville family.

What turns out to be one of the most interesting cases of the great detective's career begins when a country doctor visits Holmes and Watson in London. He brings with him the legend of the hound and news of the sudden death of Sir Charles Baskerville. Sir Charles' heir, Henry, is arriving from America and the doctor is afraid for the young man's life. Holmes despatches Dr Watson to accompany them back to the dark and somber estate in the Devon moor.

With peril at every turn and a murderous escaped convict at large, the mystery depends. Is the ancient legend true, or is the hideous creature merely a part of a sinister conspiracy whose origins are all too diabolically human?

    "Classic Sherlock Holmes"

I grew up in the U.K. whilst radio plays were still keeping their own against television... and games consoles didn't exist :-)This story is very good, although I didn't find the dramatization quite as pleasing as compared to other Sherlock Holmes books I've downloaded. However, still an entertaining few hours !

    "great radio version"

Clive Merrison and the late Michael Williams are well-cast as Holmes and Watson, and I enjoy their dramatizations of the Holmes stories - I think they've done nearly all of them (although now with Andrew Sachs as Watson).

If you're looking for a traditional narration of the story, this version isn't for you. I first heard this on BBC Internet radio, which is the type of venue best suited for this radio play style of storytelling.

    "Don't Waste Your Time"

    This was HORRIBLE.
It was like listening to a stage play or a television show. The format is completely unsuited to an audio program. It desperately needed narration at the very least.

    "its okay.."

it was ok. I needed to read it for school, but it was a play, it was well dramatized, i liked it even though it did nothing for me.

"Again....an great dramatisation of a great story"

I love this story and this dramatisation does it justice...I recommend it.

    "OK book, with OK narration."

This was something of a middle-down-the-road experience for me. It didn't stick with me for some reason, despite the good dramatisation attempts. Perhaps I just don't like the overly radio-play style of narration.
