Publisher's summary

The past is never over. It just gets dusty.

Lisa Grant was a rising star in a prestigious law firm in Lexington, Kentucky, when the firm went bankrupt and she lost her job. With an ailing mother to care for, she takes the first job she can find: research assistant to District Attorney Scott Buchanan. Scott is as disagreeable as he is sexy, and Lisa suspects the only reason she got the job was Scott’s fond feelings for her mother, who treated him well when he was just a farmhand on the Grants’ large horse farm while Lisa was growing up.

After she misses an important court date, Lisa doesn’t get any special treatment from Scott. As punishment, he sends her to organize cold-case files in the basement of the courthouse. What Lisa expects to be a mind-numbingly boring task turns into anything but when a missing-persons case draws her attention. The details of the case are engrossing: an entire family — father, mother, and two children — disappeared without a trace more than 28 years ago. Except that’s not all: the mother in a photo Lisa finds could be her own twin.

Before Lisa can learn more, a series of catastrophes strikes close to home, and she realizes that finding the photo has put her in terrible danger. Determined to uncover the truth, she confides in Scott, and their relationship develops into something beyond that of employer and employee. Together they unravel a terrifying web of criminal connections that could shatter what Lisa knows of her past. And it’s clear someone will go to shocking lengths to make sure certain secrets stay hidden.

Another Winner

Mystery, romance and intrigue evolved and revolved throughout this story to end in an unexpected twist. I have to be prepared to listen long and often to each of Robards' books and "Shattered" is no exception. Hard to press the pause button! Excellent narration.

mediocre murder mystery

Would you try another book from Karen Robards and/or Susan Ericksen?

maybe

Would you recommend Shattered to your friends? Why or why not?

I found the story line weak, the mind set of the killer was not explained well "because I was told to do it" just did not cut it for me.
I could not really recommend to friends.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

put more tension in to the story

Could you see Shattered being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

yes with revisions
The stars: Eva Mendes, Colin Ferrell, Mila Kunis, Billy Bob Thornton

Any additional comments?

Hands down the hottest sex scene I've listened too thus far... yoah baby!

Good story

I caught myself rolling my eyes in some parts, maybe because some parts sounded a bit cheesy read out loud. That could be put down to my own cynicism. Still, the story & narrator kept me engrossed throughout.

It was ok

Dragged a lot wasn't my favorite but I love the narrator. It was too much of a love story than a mystery.

Surprising Disappointment From Karen...

Not even one if my favorite narrators can save this book. I found the actual story incredibly dull of the 13 hours and 25 minutes it felt like all but the last 1 hour 20 minutes was the only tolerable part the rest felt like setup for the end. While setup is important, it should be threaded through the story. Listening to the story felt more like a chore than a pleasure. I expected more from Karen as I usually like her books. Had I been reading this rather than listening I would have likely stopped at the end of the first or second chapter.

Mystery and Romance

This story kept us riveted as it took its twists and turns. We were constantly trying to guess the roles each character played in the mystery and the author proved us wrong every time.

Great story, nicely performed. Highly recommended by husband and wife listening team.

Kept you guessing, I enjoyed!

The only problem I had with this listen was Susan Ericksen, and I love her; however, this sounded like an Eve Dallas story, she just has a different profession. Susan has narrated all the Eve Dallas stories I have listened to and I enjoy her, I just kept picturing her during this story. Otherwise, the story was interesting and kept you guessing to the very end, I didn't figure it out.

Shattered

So interesting, I didn't want to put it down, and when I had to, couldn't wait to get back to it. The mystery kept me in suspense until the very end, although, I had begun to suspect some of the mystery. Very well written to keep the readers attention.

Slow start but good story

The first half of this book dragged a little, but the story picked up and was quite entertaining over all. And I originally chose this fuck not because of the author, but because of Susan Ericson.

It's too bad that this book didn't stretch the readers talents, because the charactersdidn't
