Publisher's Summary

When a deputy identifies the man's body 50 years after his disappearance, the family turns to their niece, Deena Sharpe, to uncover the truth about his murder. She's a burned-out high school teacher who soon discovers that a mysterious author is about to implicate her dead uncle in his latest conspiracy theory. She must channel her inner super-sleuth to solve the puzzle and protect her family name. With the help of her off-beat brother and others from the cozy town of Maycroft, Texas, Deena takes on a quest that leads to more questions than answers. Along the way, she discovers some truths about life and about herself. From antique shopping to car chases to ghosts in the night, life in the suburbs just got a lot more complicated.

    "GREAT Narration, good story."

Madeline Mrozek is an excellent narrator. Listening to her is like sitting in your living room and having her tell you a story. So, anything she narrates is worth your time. Additionally, this book is well written and has a good story line, well worth your time. Some books may be better written and genres differ. So I rate on how mush I enjoyed a book, I am not a book critic.

    "No cliche heroine"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Realistic, clever, intelligent, light murder mystery that kept me hooked.

What did you like best about this story?

The heroine Deena, was no cliche. Older, happy with who she is, sharp, someone I liked and could associate with.

What does Madeline Mrozek bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I enjoyed her lively voice. Fresh and interesting.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. It was not a mind blowing 'Hitchcock" type mystery, but I it kept me interested to the end.

    Any additional comments?

I would listen to more stories by this authors. It is a good example of 'clean and simple, done well' v.s. 'over the top, done badly'. "This audio book was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review."

    "Smart"

This is one of the better cozy mysteries I've ever listened to. It's clever and intelligent, suspenseful and intriguing. If it had a better humor element, it would have been top notch. But it was great just the way it is, too. I just really value humor. The wit that is represented is quite good, just not enough of it in my opinion. The relationships between the characters are fantastic and I'm always a little relieved when the romance angle is not foremost. Already happily married is a welcome breath of fresh air!
The narrator was quite good. This book was very professional and I feel lucky to have obtained it free in exchange for this honest review.

    "Twisty!"

Good suspense with lots of clues and twists, character development is very well done. See publisher's blurb for hints, no spoilers here. I really enjoyed this fine mystery and hope to read more from this author.
I was lucky to have been able to obtain an audio of this book and feel that Ms. Mrozek truly enhanced the author's work with her pleasant vocal range and voice interpretation of each character.

    "Sharpe Shooter"

“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”

This is book 1 in the Maycroft Mystery Series. Deena has left her teaching position at the high school and now needs to solve a mystery that implicates her family in a major crime. As she searchs family records, interviews people from the past and an author that writes conspiracy theory books she makes discoveries about family and herself as well. There are many twists and turns and even a question that leaves the listener wondering, scratching their head and going............hummm.....................! Bring on book 2.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

"Not so cozy in the Texas suburbs"
What did you love best about Sharpe Shooter?

Sharpe Shooter: Cozy Suburbs Mystery Series is an easy and likeable Texas mystery. I respected Deena, she was smart and strong. It is tedious when you listen to stories where the amateur detectives are TSTL (Too Stupid To Live). Deena did not fall into that category.
Deena's brother was a good addition to the cast of characters.

What about Madeline Mrozek’s performance did you like?

She does a generic (I don't know if it is a Texas accent) Southern accent very well.

    "Entertaining fun."

This is the first book of Lisa B Thomas that I have read, but it won't be the last!
Not always a fan of cozy mysteries, this on could change my mind with twists, turns and a conspiracy theory, this kept my attention to the end. The characters were fun, well developed and were like someone you know.
I also like the narration of Madeline Mrozek. She has an easy listening voice adding character and interest to each person in the book. I look forward to hearing her again, especially for the other books in this series.
The highest praise I can give a book is that I will listen to again, Sharpe Shooter falls into that category, I had that much fun listening to it!

    "Sharpe Shooter: A Cold Case"

One of my favorite mystery series I own on Audible is also narrated by Madeline, so I was really excited to listen to this new series! The narration of Deana, Russell & all the townsfolk were done really well & it was easy to discern each of the characters from one another.

This mystery is a cold case that gets revived when the body of Matthew is officially found and identified. I like cold case mysteries because they always have a historical story line & in this case a really cool second running plot about JFK. The story had depth but it felt realistic. The characters are multi dimensional & have plenty of room to grow through the books in the series. I hope more will be out soon! I received this book in exchange for my honest review

    "Loved it!"
    Any additional comments?

First, just let me give kudos to the narrator! A book with a variety of Texas accents could have gone awry easily but this narrator kept the voices separate, gave you the nuance you needed to know who was talking and was able to vocalize both young and old Texans. It was amazing.

I love mysteries and this book kept me guessing right down to the very last chapter. I pride myself on being able to figure out the 'who dunnit' but in no way did I guess this one. Way to go author!!

A great mystery with stellar narration made for a very enjoyable Saturday afternoon listen.
