Publisher's summary

The meeting place was carefully chosen: an abandoned church in rural Ireland just after dark. For Jonathan Quinn - a freelance operative and professional "cleaner" - the job was only to observe. If his cleanup skills were needed, it would mean things had gone horribly wrong.

But an assassin hidden in a tree assured just that. And suddenly Quinn had four dead bodies to dispose of and one astounding clue - to a mystery that is about to spin wildly out of control.

Three jobs, no questions. That was the deal Quinn had struck with his client at the Office. Unfortunately for him, Ireland was just the first. Now Quinn, along with his colleague and girlfriend - the lethal Orlando - has a new assignment touched off by the killings in Ireland. Their quarry is a U.N. aide worker named Marion Dupuis who has suddenly disappeared from her assignment in war-torn Africa. When Quinn finally catches a glimpse of her, she quickly flees, frantic and scared. And not alone.

For Quinn the assignment has now changed. Find Marion Dupuis, and the child she is protecting, and keep them from harm. If it were only that easy.

Soon Quinn and Orlando find themselves in a bunker in the California hills, where Quinn will unearth a horrifying plot that is about to reach stage critical for a gathering of world leaders - and an act of terror more cunning, and more insidious, than anyone can guess.

Fast, smart, sleek, and stunning, Shadow of Betrayal is vintage Brett Battles: a gritty, gripping masterpiece of suspense, a thriller that makes the pulse pound--and stirs the heart as well.

Good Book and Excellent Narration!

This was a good book. Entertaining and keeps your attention. Sometimes a bit to descriptive but not enough to take away from the overall rating.

I really like all the characters and they way they are developing. Lots of action, intrigue and some mystery.

As for the narration, it is amazing! Scott Brick is soooo good. He does such a great job on all the voices and accents as well as the female voices. He also has a very sexy voice. Bonus!

my neck of the woods

as I live in the Mojave Desert and near NWC. I loved all the familiar places and feel of inclusion in the story.

Got tired of Narrator's voice.

Nice continuation of the story, but I just got tired of Mr. Brick's voice. The same inflections sort of put me to sleep.

Good…not great

This series is pretty good. It’s not one of my favorites but I like it well enough. I don’t know if it’s just me but every time I hear the words “His apprentice” I want to scream. WE GET IT. It’s the THIRD book in the series! We know who Nate is. I swear it seems like I heard that phrase like 50 times. Anyway, the story definitely keeps you engaged and Scott Brick seems to be everyone’s favorite narrator. I plan to continue this series. And I’m hoping the books continue to get better.

exciting action but weird premise

Individually, the action scenes were quite enjoyable, but the entire premise seemed extremely forced. Kidnapping disabled children from around the world to use them in a bombing plot? How did they get them all into the US? Too far-fetched.

The leaders of the really bad guys seemed to shrivel up when faced with real strength. Not very convincing there either.

But the LP as a long-term conspiracy-world-domination group, now that seems plausible.

Scott Brick seems to be trying to make every word exciting by lots of swooping, and then by ending on unnatural high tones. I tried repeating his sentences with normal English intonation (dropping at the ends) and it sounded much better. This ends up being New York Jewish question intonation, even for the Aussie. His tight, nasal voice combined with the wrong intonation is exhausting. His Aussie accent is good though when it didn't go Jewish.

Excellent

I'm so glad Scott Brick is back. The one book without him was not nearly as good to listen to. I live the characters. interesting occupation.

What a comeback

Having listen the previous book only to keep up this one was worth it. As the first book this too was exciting from beginning to end. A tribute not only to Brett Battled but standing ovation to Scott Brick for a performance well done.
