Publisher's Summary

As darkness falls on 10 May 1975, a little boy waits alone on the steps of an amusement park. The park is about to close, and everyone is leaving, except the child. He continues to wait there, not daring to move. He has been told to stay right where he is. Only no one is coming back for him.

Why has he been abandoned, with only the briefest of notes to whoever finds him? And what connection do the events of this day have to the death of Gerda Persson 30 years later - a woman who leaves few clues to her life, apart from a freezer full of books?

    Story
    "A terrific twisted tale"
Where does Shadow rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Pretty high. I am often disappointed in books that promise more than they deliver but this one was surprisingly engaging. It kept me gripped to the end, which was most surprising.

What did you like best about this story?

The way you were drawn into it, without knowing where you were headed.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Never judge a book by its tag line.

    Story
    "A grim story"

I find it difficult to review this book without giving away too much of the plot. The story was gripping and neatly-plotted, and certainly held my interest - partly, also, because the reader was excellent. However, most of the characters were impossible to like, or even to sympathise with to any great degree, and the ending was almost unremittingly bleak. I would have liked some sense of overall redemption, instead of the feeling that the innocent, or relatively innocent, were being punished while those who were guilty were made to suffer far less.
