"First-class political intrigue from a master storyteller." (Booklist)
This is the eleventh Vince Flynn book I've listened to, I saved it for last because of the poor reviews regarding the narrator. I couldn't finish it. He made all of the characters sound whiny, anxious and condescending including Mitch Rapp.
A snooty, anxious Rapp?!
Three years into my audible subscription this is only the second book I couldn't finish due to narration.
I'll get this installment on Rapp the old fashioned way I think, actual paper.
I am still in the first half of the book as I write this review. The narrator is just awful. He makes every character sound like a shrill, whiny, complainer. The action is just starting to really come together, but I can hardly stand to listen. Ken Kilban makes Mitch Rapp sound like he jumped off a rainbow float in a New Orleans parade to assassinate a terrorist before berating the hotel staff because it gave him the wrong candle to match the room's feng shui and messed up his bubble bath. Rule: never, ever, listen to a book read by this guy.
I fell in love with the Mitch Rapp series and was thrill when these older books came out. After listening to the first chapter without George Guildall narrarating I've decided not to purchase any others. The story would be great but the story teller is horrible. THIS IS NOT MITCH RAPP!! Please redo with George Guidall!! Please!
I can't believe I am rating a Vince Flynn novel as one star but here it is. How sad. I have purchased this novel in paper but I hate to read, then I purchased it in an abridged format, YUK, and despite the reviews I was excited to get the entire thing read to me. NOT. This narrator is really bad. I can handle the narrative parts but when he does voices Mitch sounds like a whining 16 year old kid, Kennedy and all women sound the same, like old ladies. It is so bad it overpowers the excellence of this book. If this is your first audible purchase do not judge audible by this terrible production, it is rare to be this bad. To audible, either issue refunds or get this redone and offer to replace this fiasco. To Simon and Shuster audio, shame on you. This is really inexcusable.
i should have read the reviews before i purchased this book. cannot listen to this narrator whine his way through the book. i've listened to a couple chapters and no more. i think i will buy the paper book to read.
can we get refunds on books we can't listen to? my last book by this narrator.
The narrator is the worst I have ever heard. I can't even bring myself to finish the book. He turns Mitch Rapp into a high pitched, whiny hero. George Guidall , the narrator for all of the other Mitch Rapp books, really captured the essence of all of the characters in a given book, male and female alike.
I can,t get myself to stop listening to Vince Flynn's books. I read about all of them. This one is not as good due to the narrater.
If there is one single man on the face of this earth who can assassinate the mighty Mitch Rapp.... It's Ken Kilban! George, where the hell are you, your country needs you! Kilban leaves me feeling like Mitch is more of an interior decorator / gown designer than razor toothed predator. Ohhhhh the humanity!
Love Vince Flynn.. This is my 6th book and this recoreding stinks. They will remove my post if I tell the truth on what Ken Kilban sounds like. Ken...Please retire.....Vince...quality control please...I'll repurchase if you fix this .
"Good story poor narrator"
It's amazing how much a narrator can affect the enjoyment of a story.
I've read most of Vince Flynn's books & have listened to all of his books on audible. George Guidall is definitely the best for these books, he's a really good narrator & I've got a lot of other books that he's narrated. The first 2 Mich Rapp books & Term Limits were narrated by Nick Sullivan who was ok, but Ken Kilban's narration is very grating
"great story and narration with satisfying plot"
As usual Fylnn excels in involving the reader with the intrigues of its characters. This book concludes a number of plot elements left hanging by its predecessor The Third Option.
Bit too long for me to listen to in one sitting, but certainly found it thoroughly absorbing.
Best read in continuation of The Third Option.
"Good plot spoiled by awful narration"
Could be better
Kennedy always seems to have that extra insight into the meanings of people's actions.
Will definitely avoid. Poor intonation, always seems as if a quiet statement is an argument. Dialogue perpetually ends on an upward inflection that I found initially irritating and eventually it spoiled the book. I won't listen to anything by this narrator again. Painful!
"Dreadful narration, good story"
This is without out doubt the most awful narration I have ever listened to. With Mis-pronounced words and a complete failure to convey any of the drama of the prose Ken Kliban has almost completely ruined this book. Fortunately the story is good enough that I forced myself to finish it, but only just. Although probably only because I enjoyed the first 2 books immensely.
I was looking forward to this series as it has been highly recommended to me after I ran out of jack reacher books, if Ken Kliban is reading any more of them though, I think I will have to find something else!
The narrator made everyone sound angry most of the time. This spoiled the enjoyment of the story and portrayed the main characters in a different light to the earlier books. Very disappointing
"Good but not as good as previous books"
Mitch's girlfriend annoyed me a bit already but in this book she became a petulant teenager in her behaviour. The plot is slow is start but good once gets going.
The narrator is not as appropriate as the previous ones.
"Good addition to the series, though some......"
Good addition to the series, though there was some early repetition and 'catch up' info on the characters that were obviously for those who hadn't read previous novels. this was fine but it was actually a bit repetitive within this novel.
other than that, the story was good, key characters were developed and the major event for the lead character in the second half of the book means the series will become very interesting from here on in. roll on the next one!
"Flynn brilliant again"
Another brilliant book in the Mitch Rapp Saga, following on nicely to others. Mitchs Character continues to develop and mature. Nice narration and great story. If you're a Rapp fan - this is another great book. Havent listened to a bad Vince Flynn book yet !
One of the series of Rapp stories: Transfer of Power - Consent to kill
Good narration style.
No but gripping in places
As the 3rd or 4th in a series I was surprised that they changes the narrator at all, but especially for someone with absolutely no ear for intonation and the strangest cadence. I suggest that you listen carefully to the sample before buying this audiobook to avoid disappointment.
I was disssapointed with the audio version of this book as the narrator did not bring the charatures to life as much as other narrators have on the same series. I also felt that there was much repetative catching up in the text from the the previous book which i was already aware off however i understand this was for the people who had not read the previous book. Whilst i did enyoy it, it was not one of Vince Flynns better efforts - however i am looking forward to the next Mitch adventure.
