In the first weeks after World War II, a squeaky-clean new second lieutenant named James D. Cronley Jr. is spotted and recruited for a new enterprise that will eventually be transformed into something called the CIA. This is the book that dares to show us the military hardware, global upheavals, and raw combat a second Korean War would unleash. How F-16s would blast across the 38th Parallel. How ultra-modern submarines would vie for the seas. And how two armies would turn the snowfields of Asia red with blood. A thundering geopolitical thriller of vast scope, this is Red Phoenix - and a new standard for military/political suspense fiction.

Story
Two armed men board a 727 that has been all but forgotten at an airfield in Angola. Hijacking the jet, they then slit the throat of the lone crew and fly to parts unknown. The consternation is immediate, as the CIA, FBI, and other agencies race to find out what happened, in the process elbowing one another in the sides a little too vigorously. Fed up, the president of the United States turns to an outside investigator to determine the truth.

Still a Great Story
Where does Semper Fi rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Many years ago I read the entire Corps series. It is every bit as good in audio. I hope Audible will do the entire Series and bring its wonderful characters to life once again.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Killer McCoy
Any additional comments?
As I mentioned earlier, I hope Audible brings this entire Series back to life.

Terrible narration
I previously read the book and the narrator’s rendition was a poor portrayal of the characters. Fortunately he couldn’t ruin a superb story. I’m a former marine and the voices used to portray the male characters made them sound like imbeciles. The narrator for Honor Bound by contrast did a masterful job.

great book, very good audible
the voice is a bit getting used to but after awhile, it took me back 25 or so years ago to when I read the series...the man doing the woman's voices in a sexy voice is kind of hilarious but mildly arousing (kidding). I just bought book 2.

Foundation. Writing excellence. Immersing in the beginning of a fantastic story.
I have read this and all his other series several times. I am able to enjoy both his characters and his style each time I experience them. I am glad they are on Audible because once again I am able to enjoy the initial experiences of The Corp. Way to go, Mr. Griffin.

Great book!
The reader, whose voice is a bit feminine, attempted, without success to make each voice of characters in the book different. Though I have enjoyed listening to this book and will continue in the series, knowing this reader will continue makes me wonder why the reader wasn’t changed. The reader in The Brotherhood of War series was much better!
