    "Not a real historical novel"
What did you like best about Semper Fi? What did you like least?

I liked some of the military customs and courtesy descriptions.
I didn't like the way it read like a harlequin romance.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Leave out most of the sex and sleaziness.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    None were especially memorable.

Was Semper Fi worth the listening time?

It was OK but I will not listen to any more in the series

    Any additional comments?

As a retired military officer I was hoping the novel was more realistic rather than A "Hardy Boys"/Girlsy sex oriented novel. Should change the series title from Semper Fi to "A Marine's WWII Romantic Trysts".

    "A tired author!"
What did you like best about Semper Fi? What did you like least?

Typical Griffin story. I must admit I am a sucker for a Griffin / Hill audiobook. Irritated by the authors obvious lack of interest in completing the story in the same vein as he started it.

If you’ve listened to books by W. E. B. Griffin before, how does this one compare?

Sadly, does not compare favorably with his other books. It starts off nicely and held my attention. However, it seemed as if he was tiring and lost interest in the work. The denouement arrives unexpectedly with lots of loose ends. He even ignores one of the main characters.I am not at all sure that I will read another if this is a trend.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

    "Amazing writing, wrong voice talent"

Top notch writing from a master story teller. I have had this in paper back for years and practically wore the ink off of the pages; it's great stuff.

Considering the above, I admit that i had my own character voices pretty well set in my head- that happens a lot when you have more books than all other households items added together

. I can stretch to other adaptations most of the time, but not here. I just never conceived of a bunch of marines sounding like a pack of particularly nebbishy Brooklynites. sigh...

Apart from the character dissonance, Mr. Hill is Ok... Good diction, good pacing, consistent voices and well able to handle military jargon and foreign place names smoothly. He had maybe a slight over-pronunciation that clinked against my ear on some occasions, but all in all, a good reader... just not the one for this book.

    "Surprisingly good"

I didn't want it to end. The story was easy to follow. The character development was excellent. I really enjoyed the detailed description of the Marine Corp life.

"Send your kids out of the room"

Yikes! I sat down to listen to a rousing story about life in the core. What I got was a preponderance of profanity and a gratuitous number of sex scenes and references. My five year old walked into the room during the scene when the main character was fervently trying to stare up the dress of the gay pastor's wife. Guess I should have been glad he didn't walk in while he was talking about 14 year old prostitutes or having a prolonged, vivid sexual encounter with said pastor's wife.

I haven't read a Griffin book in years and I've never tried a Griffin audiobook. I'm now hooked. Time to download Book 2 of this great series.

    "I'll be back for more"

For whatever reason, I thought this was non-fiction/history when I bought it. I probably jumped at an audible daily special without reading the full description. Despite a little initial surprise, I certainly wasn't disappointed. This is great historical fiction in the vein of Michael Shaara (and later, his son Jeff), and I'm glad there are 9 more books in the series to follow.
