What the Critics Say

"No best-selling suspense novelist creates magnetic characters as consistently as Koontz does....This novel stands as vintage Koontz, a rousing crowd-pleaser that recapitulates some of his recurrent themes." (Publishers Weekly)

    "WOWWWW!!!"

This is one of the best "collaborations" of fiction I've ever read/listened to. The first of this series, Fear Nothing, was just okay for me. But with Seize the Night, Koontz goes "sideways".

As a writer, I stand in awe of this sample of Koontz' brilliant repartee with both dialogue and description--no author I've ever read even comes close. His family of unique characters in this series is each as memorable and fascinating as Odd Thomas. And narrator, Keith Szarabajka, is dead-on with his performance. I laughed, I quaked, I had a hard time NOT listening until the very last word. I can't wait to read Mr. Snow's next journal entry.

    "Masterpiece"

Quite possibly one of Dean's best works. Ask any Dean Koontz fan and they'll tell you that, despite all of his brilliant works, there's just something special about the story of Christopher Snow and his friends in Moonlight Bay. I, like many other fans, are still anxiously awaiting the the next Christopher Snow adventure more than anything else.

    "New Book - Old Koontz"

This is like returning to Koontz's early years which were awesome. He's got his touch back and it's great.

    "Seize the Night"

This sequel out does its predecessor and is Koontz at his best. The character Christoper Snow is singular, yet familiar in thoughts and his imagination. I could not put this one down. I was listening to it on my iPod as I was rocking my baby to sleep, when I was doing dishes and making dinner. Carpe Exaudio

    "Action Packed and Enjoyed Characters"

A reader should probably read the first book written about this character and place before this one, but it isn't absolutely necessary. I liked the characters in this book a lot and "cared" about what happened to them. As a result, the action was "edge of your seat" hoping that bad things wouldn't happen to them.

This was classic Koontz- clever dialog and always the understated humor in the midst of chaos and danger. The story moved at a good pace and all the action seemed relevant. This story was more toward science-fiction, so be prepared to just accept certain premises without nit-picking the details.

If you are a Koontz fan, then you will be satisfied with this one. If you never read the first book about Moonlight Bay, then the story may seem a bit "out-there", but the characters and action are really good so I'd recommend it.

    "Keeps getting better"

If you are a Koontz fan, you should read this book. It starts off with our friend Snow in over his head in what seems to be a "normal" situation. From there, it becomes a Koontz special full of "non-normal" happenings. If you want to know what the Mystery Train hat from Snow's first book (Fear Nothing) is all about, again, you should read this. I really enjoyed the last few hours. Great listening.

    "More Christopher Snow please......."
Where does Seize the Night rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is tied with Fear nothing. I would rank this number 1. Wonderful read/listen.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Seize the Night?

I could hardly wait to finish the book when Orson disappeared.

What does Keith Szarabajka bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Personality of each character.

    "A nice second book"

I thought Fear Nothing had to open of an ending. This was a good continuation of the story.

"Almost as good as Fear Nothing"

This series was my first Koontz and has a special place in my memory. This is very good Koontz, with great characters, good story, a good dog, and more depth than any other author in the genre. Seize the Night is a bit less great than Fear Nothing, but I enjoyed it anyway. The story is a wild, but the wonderful prose and characterization overcome any lacks in the story. These Koontz characters are only rivaled by those in the Odd series.

Although this is purportedly the second in the Moonlight Bay series, the books both stand on their own very well. Someday there may be a promised third in the series, but certainly don’t wait for the third to read the first two.
