Publisher's summary

Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels of the Chicago Police Department is back, and once again she's up to her Armani in murder. Someone is sending Jack snuff videos. The victims are people she knows, and they share a common trait—all were involved in one of Jack's previous cases. With her stalwart partner, Herb, hospitalized and unable to help, Jack follows a trail of death throughout the Midwest, on a collision course with the smartest and deadliest adversary she has ever known.

During the chase, Jack jeopardizes her career, her love life, and her closest friends. She also comes to a startling realization—serial killers have families, and blood runs thick.

Rusty Nail features more of the laugh-out-loud humor and crazy characters that saturated Whiskey Sour and Bloody Mary, without sacrificing the nail-biting thrills. This is Lt. Jack Daniels' third, and most exciting, adventure yet.

Crack another case with Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels.

Too Graphic

I have enjoyed the other Jack Daniels books, but with each one they become more disturbingly graphic. The torture in this book is so disgusting that I couldn't listen to it. I finally gave up as the book was troubling me. I deleted it and I won't be buying anymore of Konrath's books.

Not for the squeamish

This has to be the funnest and grossest book in the series. I was howling when the rat ate McGlade's favorite chopped off finger (middle one of course)! Do not buy the series if you are looking for a good mystery or true to life story line. These books are full of silly puns, unbelievable stories and will make you laugh and grossed out at the same time.
Sample the narrators first, but I love the voices of Susie and Dick. I can't get enough of the series.

Not Worth An Audible "Credit"

This is the 4th book in the "Jack Daniels" series I've listened to and have decided that they are not worth an Audible "Credit". The titles of the books are... cute. But the stories, characters, dialogue are as flat as stale beer.

Couldn't Get Past the Narration

I love this author and his work, but as a lifetime Chicagoan, the narration was unbearable! Why not just get somebody from Chicago to narrate, rather than put on a very incorrect and exaggerated "accent" to represent the characters? I had to download the printed version of the book onto my Nook, couldn't bear listening.

Gorey Fun

‘Rusty Nail’ is another great addition to the Jack Daniels Series. The book is a good mix of action and plot development but isn’t for the faint of heart as it has a lot of gratuitous violence. The characters are interesting and fun and make for an interesting story (although I figured out who the killer was about half way through). The writing is good just make sure you don’t read it over your morning cereal!

Having two narrators is great and really helps bring the story to life. Both narrators do a superb job!

Another enjoyable book in the series ... but ...

In reviewing the first two books I disagreed with other reviewers about them being excessively graphic in violence and gore. This book, however, is full of some really disturbing scenes including a *whole* lot of violence and gore. I expected it going in, and I am not particularly squeamish - but it is most certainly there and may make these books not for some. The book also touches on some other possible trigger topics ... hard to say much without giving things away, but ... yeah, if you are prone to triggers, this one might be a pass for you.

I was stoked to get Finn back in this story as he was a favorite character from the first book. I enjoyed the story and the dark nature of the crimes - but in some ways it felt a bit forced. There was definitely a bit of "how am I going to top myself this time" feel to the escalation in violence and gore. I also think that it might have been a bit early in the series for this particular story line. It might have been a bit more compelling to see a few other cases hit Jack's desk before watching this bit of her history come back to haunt her. Then again, I have been on a binge with this series. Perhaps if I'd had to wait for the writing period between releases it wouldn't feel so much like that.

Regardless, I think that I enjoyed this book more than 1 or 2 simply because I have started to connect with the characters. I loved the arch that happened between the people in Jack's life - the connections they are making, their motivations and I have some worries for her too. I am quite interested to see if I am reading sub-tones correctly or not as the series progresses.

I've grown used to the duo narration style and didn't find it bothersome, though I don't think that the writing of this particular book lent itself to it quite as well as the two previous books. Dick Hill is awesome, as ever, and I think that Susie Breck puts just the right tone of maturity and snark into Jack. (Another reviewer complained about the accents - not being from that part of the country I didn't find it troublesome, though I can understand that it might be for someone from the region).

I'm not sorry I purchased it - though I must admit, I got it at a reduced price after checking the kindle version out for "free" through the Amazon kindle unlimited program. (A great way to try out a new author!)

Nasty Goodness!! The Series Just Gets Better!

Where does Rusty Nail rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Every book in the series is better than the last. The characters and their relationships continue to evolve. The plots keep you guessing until the end, I also like that Konrath doesn't add in too many new characters and I appreciate that. I find that some authors write too many new characters in and the book loses its cohesiveness. It can be confusing but Konrath keeps a laser focus on what matters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rusty Nail?

The cat of course, so great!! Also, the killer. I can't say more, I don't want to spoil anything.

Which scene was your favorite?

Any of the cat scenes were great! The final fight scene was also awesome! Oh yeah the cat was there too.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I hate this question. I'd rather let the author figure this out.

Any additional comments?

Great Book, Great Series!!! Highly Recommended!!

Not for those with a weak stomach

Gore ... If you enjoy a lot of gore, you will love this story. It is a good mystery, and the readers are fine. Just when you think it cannot get worse, you get hit with an even more gory sequence.
