A Royal Spyness mystery starring Lady Georgiana, 34th in line for the throne - and the mystery world's favorite penniless heiress.
With its posh clientele in the country for the summer, Georgie's housecleaning business has fizzled. So she tries hiring herself out as a dinner and theatre companion. But her first client has quite the wrong idea.
To avoid further scandal, Georgie's shipped home to Castle Rannoch, where her summer plans include honoring a promise to Her Majesty to keep Castle Rannoch's divorced houseguest from seducing the Prince of Wales. She's also been coerced into helping Scotland Yard with a top-secret mission - namely keeping an eye on the shooting party at Balmoral and preventing someone from shooting the Prince. And Georgie must manage all this without strangling her odious sister-in-law Fig or spineless brother Binky.

"Katherine Kellgren is completely winning as guileless, gullible, plucky Georgie. With the castle overrun by visitors - including the notorious American Mrs. Wallis Simpson; her paramour, the Prince of Wales; and an assortment of gentry and staff - Kellgren shifts accents and attitudes with ease. Phryne Fisher fans will love Kellgren’s Lady Georgiana." (AudioFile)
I did not read the print version but the narrator is excellent and rarely misses on her character voices.
Her character voices.
This installment of the Lady Georgie books takes place mostly in Scotland and the narrator, Katherine Kellgren, does a fabulous job with all the accents. Her characters are distinct and you always know who's talking. The mystery itself was good, although I'm still not entirely sure why the culprit did it. I think I've become a bit addicted to these stories with their interesting view of this time period.
This book, and indeed the entire series, is just plain fun and enjoyment. The books are lighthearted but interesting, with great characters and wonderful plots. The narration is "spot on." The books are just right for a summer listening session or for any time that amusing, light stories are what you crave.
The Royal Spyness Mysteries are light, engaging and addictive! Katherine Kellgren does a nice job at keeping the voices full of personality and the characters believable.
I do consider the audio version better because you hear all the great accents and infections.
Great series, this time set in deepest darkest Scotland near Balmoral. I love Georgiana, trying to make her way in the world in the midst of the Depression--despite the fact that the only useful skill she has ever been taught is where to seat a bishop at dinner, and her family's only expectation is that she make a good match, even if it means marrying "Fish Face". I loved the scene of her misadventure in advertising! And I can totally relate to her klutz instinct. Nonetheless, she never gives up, no matter how deranged the murderer! The narration by Katherine Kellgren is excellent and really brings the story to life. I'm truly in awe of her ability to slip from the Queen's English to Scottish brogue to Midlands flat to Cockney rhyming slang to Irish rogue to American nasal all so brilliantly and with such ease. Lots of fun!
This is the first book I've read by Rhys Bowen and I really enjoyed it. The story was entertaining and the narration was wonderful. I found the book by accident on Audible.com and am now going back to find the earlier books in the series.

Lady Georgie's Back and in yet another Pickle. Georgie seems to be related to Jessica Fletcher as she can't seem to go anywhere without tripping over a mystery. A series of peculiar accidents have plagued the royal heirs and Georgie after an understandable but hilarious Gaffe is forced back to her home in Scotland where she is to keep an close eye out for anything out of the ordinary. First Strange thing is that Figg is happy to see here and Darcy pops up again. So, begins Book 3. The series still has that fast moving fun the other's have as Georgie's regulars(Gran dad and Belinda) Both make appearances. The narrator starts off a little weak but quickly falls back into normal form as she jumps between character's accents (I just Love Belinda's ). A good listen. Can't wait for book 4.
Yes, this reader is wonderful!
Love them all, but Georgie, Darcy, and Queenie are my favorites.
This series is great, and this reader makes it even better! She is incredibly talented!
