Publisher's summary

A Royal Spyness mystery starring Lady Georgiana, 34th in line for the throne - and the mystery world's favorite penniless heiress.

With its posh clientele in the country for the summer, Georgie's housecleaning business has fizzled. So she tries hiring herself out as a dinner and theatre companion. But her first client has quite the wrong idea.

To avoid further scandal, Georgie's shipped home to Castle Rannoch, where her summer plans include honoring a promise to Her Majesty to keep Castle Rannoch's divorced houseguest from seducing the Prince of Wales. She's also been coerced into helping Scotland Yard with a top-secret mission - namely keeping an eye on the shooting party at Balmoral and preventing someone from shooting the Prince. And Georgie must manage all this without strangling her odious sister-in-law Fig or spineless brother Binky.

Critic reviews

"Katherine Kellgren is completely winning as guileless, gullible, plucky Georgie. With the castle overrun by visitors - including the notorious American Mrs. Wallis Simpson; her paramour, the Prince of Wales; and an assortment of gentry and staff - Kellgren shifts accents and attitudes with ease. Phryne Fisher fans will love Kellgren’s Lady Georgiana." ( AudioFile)

A great character and a great story almost

Georgie is a wonderful character... part of the Royal Family though a far removed one. She is imtelligent, resourceful, caring and enchanting lyrics naive. However, she doesn't grow as a person. We are introduced to a Royal who has no income and is a Virgin falling in love with an Irish rogue also of the aristocracy. in book 4 she is still penniless, still a virgin, Darcy, her love interest is still basically an unknown and their romance has barely progressed. The story would be perfect IMO, if the character growth moved faster than a snail in syrup.

Enjoyable fluff

No brain strain, just a light story full of manners and period detail. The narrator is marvelous. She makes it easy to distinguish the characters (even the male and children) from each other. Everyone becomes an actual person, and not just a character or historical personage

If you enjoy this genre, you will enjoy this book. I do; I think I've read them all

Good story, great narrator

The mystery was OK but I would have liked to know more about how "the evil element" of the book managed to do "the evil things". There were also one or two loose ends that I wish would have been explained. I love this series for the characters, especially the main character, and the narrator did a brilliant performance, bringing the story to life.

narrator was wonderful!

Light and easy listen. Bit unbelievable female main character behavior for the 1930's but fun. Doubt the AC/DC expression was used in 1932 for description of a bisexual. I will continue with the next in the series.

A Cozy Mystery with a Wee Bit O History

Once again Lady Georgiana falls into history and intrigued and a murderer is solved. Theqq series is well written and the narrator is second to none. Making an has become one of my favourite narrators. She is adept at switching voices, and accents, for each character making one believe they are listening to a theatre cast. There are airplanes, motor cars, boats, and a lake monster. What about Darcy? Of course he has to be in this book! I learned a Wee Bit more history while enjoying a well written plot that evolved slowly leaving me unable to guess what would happen next or who the criminal(s) are.

Hey there, Georgie Girl

Sometimes the crime appears to be a side story in the Life of Lady Georgianna, the last person, besides the Queen, upholding the traditions of Victorian England, at least what we have come to think of as those traditions. Well, so what! I have to say that I have become as interested in her life as the finding of the perpetrator. Of course, Lady Georgie stumbles upon this information and falls into the danger that everyone says they want to protect her from while thrusting her into it, like the sacrificial lamb. It is hard to say if this book is a mystery or a comedy. It crosses the lines. It reminds me of Agatha Cristy often. Possibly its lightheartedness masks the true art and beauty of the book, much as Cristy's have.

A Royally Good Time

I have purchased and listened to all Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness books. The narrator is marvelous, with a command of a wide range of accents. The setting is well-illustrated, the writing hilarious and thrilling by turns. I strongly recommend this series.

Sabotage in their midst

Georgie is having trouble with the mobility being in the country to escape the heat of London. He needs to make money until her invitation in a few weeks. She has a mixup with the news advertisement she has printed and Darcy has to save her. She ends up getting sent back to her home also to figure out what is going on with the royal family something is fishy and there seems to be some issues with accidents that don’t seem so much like accidents. There are the usual problems but we get a bit more of Darcy and Georgie. I hope there is more in the next books. This was a fun cozy mystery and some of the interactions made me grin.

Enjoyable story

What did you love best about Royal Flush?

This is the first book I've read by Rhys Bowen and I really enjoyed it. The story was entertaining and the narration was wonderful. I found the book by accident on Audible.com and am now going back to find the earlier books in the series.
