Publisher's summary

A Royal Spyness mystery starring Lady Georgiana, 34th in line for the throne - and the mystery world's favorite penniless heiress.

With its posh clientele in the country for the summer, Georgie's housecleaning business has fizzled. So she tries hiring herself out as a dinner and theatre companion. But her first client has quite the wrong idea.

To avoid further scandal, Georgie's shipped home to Castle Rannoch, where her summer plans include honoring a promise to Her Majesty to keep Castle Rannoch's divorced houseguest from seducing the Prince of Wales. She's also been coerced into helping Scotland Yard with a top-secret mission - namely keeping an eye on the shooting party at Balmoral and preventing someone from shooting the Prince. And Georgie must manage all this without strangling her odious sister-in-law Fig or spineless brother Binky.

Critic reviews

"Katherine Kellgren is completely winning as guileless, gullible, plucky Georgie. With the castle overrun by visitors - including the notorious American Mrs. Wallis Simpson; her paramour, the Prince of Wales; and an assortment of gentry and staff - Kellgren shifts accents and attitudes with ease. Phryne Fisher fans will love Kellgren’s Lady Georgiana." ( AudioFile)

so glad to find this series

Love this series, it is entertaining and light. This narrator is fabulous, the characters come alive. Very few audio books make me laugh out loud, this series has that effect frequently. I love the descriptions of the royals, the fact that these women are trained only how to be a wife, and where to seat aristocrats at dinner parties. There are little digs like that, which add a lot of flavor to the stories. The fact that Georgie is always trying to find some way to support herself when she has no marketable skills. A unique perspective on that time period. And of course the handsome Darcy plot always adds a lot. Definitely start with the first one in this series.

A cozy Highland fling!

Great series, this time set in deepest darkest Scotland near Balmoral. I love Georgiana, trying to make her way in the world in the midst of the Depression--despite the fact that the only useful skill she has ever been taught is where to seat a bishop at dinner, and her family's only expectation is that she make a good match, even if it means marrying "Fish Face". I loved the scene of her misadventure in advertising! And I can totally relate to her klutz instinct. Nonetheless, she never gives up, no matter how deranged the murderer! The narration by Katherine Kellgren is excellent and really brings the story to life. I'm truly in awe of her ability to slip from the Queen's English to Scottish brogue to Midlands flat to Cockney rhyming slang to Irish rogue to American nasal all so brilliantly and with such ease. Lots of fun!

Just great fun

These little mysteries, with a cast of royal characters, are like potato chips: you can't consume just one.
These are easy to fall into, and addictive once involved. The big draw on these has to be the narrator:
Katherine Kellgren who is a natural with the varied accents of the British Isles.. she is a hoot.
Now I need to factor in how I continue this series...

Good light reading

I enjoy this series. The main character doesn't take herself too seriously so I read them when I want something light. The narrator has a pleasant voice and tempo and is adept at voicing multiple characters with seeming ease.

Light and Breezy

This installment of the Lady Georgie books takes place mostly in Scotland and the narrator, Katherine Kellgren, does a fabulous job with all the accents. Her characters are distinct and you always know who's talking. The mystery itself was good, although I'm still not entirely sure why the culprit did it. I think I've become a bit addicted to these stories with their interesting view of this time period.

Fun and Entertaining

I like the time period, pre-world war 2 England. Lots of fun characters. The narrator is very good and I liked all the voices she did, male and female.
