Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Sandra Brown is back with a spine-tingling story of murder and betrayal, and a homicide detective's struggle with his own rules of conduct.

When Detective Sergeant Duncan Hatcher is summoned to the home of Judge Cato Laird in the middle of the night to investigate a fatal shooting, he knows that discretion and kid-glove treatment are the key to staying in the judge's good graces and keeping his job.

At first glance, the case appears open-and-shut: Elise, the judge's trophy wife, interrupted a burglary in progress and killed the intruder in self-defense. But Duncan is immediately suspicious of Elise's innocent act. And further investigation quickly puts Duncan's career in jeopardy because he can't deny his increasing attraction to Elisa Laird, even if she is a married woman, a proven liar, and a murder suspect.

Ricochet's plot twists, as only Sandra Brown can write them, make this a gripping thriller, in which a decent cop's worst enemy may be his own conscience...and trusting the wrong person could mean the difference between life and death.

Captivating

I really enjoyed this book. Throughout the entire book I was wondering. The only thing that would have made this book a solid 5 star is a different narrator.

It's not her best

I usually love her books. This one is not one of my favorites. I was very intrigued at times, however, Elise was simply an unrealistic character. There is no way that anyone in their right mind would marry someone for the reasons that she did. Also, the romantic relationship between the detective and Elise was just weird and overly lustful. The narrator was fine, I didn't mind him, but I think I would've enjoyed it more if I read it myself. Give it a chance.

There's more to Savannah that the bridge

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The first time I listened I was so angry about the poor representation of Savannah that I honestly could not concentrate on the substance. Once I resigned myself to the fact that Ms. Brown knows very little about our beautiful city, I enjoyed the story.

Has Ricochet turned you off from other books in this genre?

Genre? Definitely not. Author? Definitely.

What does Dennis Boutsikaris bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Nothing really. His female characters vocalization is painful at time, but his voice is easy to listen to, his diction is better than most and I enjoy listening to him.

Was Ricochet worth the listening time?

After the first listen, yes. It is a quite intriguing plot and the characters have more than just superficial personalities.

Any additional comments?

I bought this book specifically because it is set in Savannah. The only thing she goes into any detail by name about is the Talmadge Bridge. She briefly mentions the old police station, but completely ignores the many squares and historical aspects of the city. No, they don't contribute to the plot, but they make it more believable to those of us who know the city. It would be like writing a novel set in NYC and not mentioning Central Park or the Empire State building.

Intriguing story, good narration

Things get started when Detective Duncan Hatcher is called to the home of Judge Cato Laird's home where his wife, Elise had shot and killed an intruder. What follows during the investigation is lots of intrigue and subterfuge.

It's an interesting story with a slow start and an exciting second half. The ending had me in a twist and confused so that's a plus. However, I found it difficult to connect with anyone, especially Elise and Hatcher's partner, Dee Dee. He also ran hot and cold so often he left me on the sidelines.

It's not my most favorite but I still enjoyed the story.

Really liked it !

I really enjoyed this book ! Could hardly wait to get back in the car and turn the ipod on! Yes, narration wasn't the best, but not bad enough to spoil it.

Not up to par with Sandra Brown's other works.

Forced myself to finish this one. Very sappy and predictable. Disappointed in a central character being such a strong focus based on her looks. The character didn't seem to exhibit exceptionally strong qualities beyond the physical.

It's Sandra at her best

What made the experience of listening to Ricochet the most enjoyable?

I just love her books. Narrator was bad, but you forget that quite quickly once you get into the story. The ending was abrupt. Wish that had been extended a bit.
