Publisher's summary

Best-selling novelist Cullen "Cubby" Greenwich is a lucky man and he knows it. He makes a handsome living doing what he enjoys. His wife, Penny, a children's book author and illustrator, is the love of his life. Together they have a brilliant six-year-old, Milo, affectionately dubbed "Spooky", nd a non-collie named Lassie, who's all but part of the family.

So Cubby knows he shouldn't let one bad review of his otherwise triumphant new book get to him - even if it does appear in the nation's premier newspaper and is penned by the much-feared, seldom-seen critic Shearman Waxx. Cubby knows that the best thing to do is ignore the gratuitously vicious, insulting, and inaccurate comments. Penny knows it; even little Milo knows it. If Lassie could talk, she'd tell Cubby to ignore them, too.
Ignore Shearman Waxx and his poison pen is just what Cubby intends to do. Until he happens to learn where the great man is taking his lunch. Cubby just wants to get a look at the mysterious recluse whose mere opinion can make or break a career - or a life.

But Shearman Waxx isn't what Cubby expects, and neither is the escalating terror that follows what seemsto be an innocent encounter. For Waxx gives criticism; he doesn't take it. He has ways of dealing with those who cross him that Cubby is only beginning to fathom. Soon Cubby finds himself in a desperate struggle with a relentless sociopath, facing an inexorable assault on far more than his life.

Fearless, funny, utterly compelling, Relentless is Dean Koontz at his riveting best, an unforgettable tale of the fragile bonds that hold together all that we most cherish - and of those who would tear those bonds asunder.

Critic reviews

"Koontz is a master of the edge-of-your-seat, paranoid thriller and perhaps the leading American practitioner of the form." ( Newark Star-Ledger)
"Koontz is working at his pinnacle, providing terrific entertainment that deals seriously with some of the deepest themes of human existence: the nature of evil, the grip of fate and the power of love." ( Publishers Weekly)

Relentless

I used to love Dean Koontz. He has written some of the best books I've ever read but lately I have not enjoyed some of his books. From the Corner of His Eye was and is one of the best books I've ever read in my life. I actually have an entire library of some of his and Stephen King's books but I did not enjoy Relentless. The premise of the book is just not believable. I didn't feel that I could "see" the characters but oh well I am not ready to give him up and will keep searching for another "From the Corner of His Eye.

Not my favourite

Having read a few of the earlier reviews I was excited about listening to this so perhaps I had higher expectations of this book from the start. I felt it was a little bit far fetched, particularly the second part of this book. It builds up towards an enormous climax and sets up the story to have a massive ending but it ends so soon. I found myself saying, "Is that it? No, it can't be..." My favourites of Koontz are 'Lightning' and 'By the Light of the Moon' and I guess I was expecting something like those masterpieces of thriller/suspense. This was a bit of a disappointment but Koontz is still amongst my favourite authors and I will read/listen to more of his books.

Relentless

After reading other reviews I was hesitant to order this book. However I really enjoyed it. Maybe not the best by Dean Koontz but certainly not the worst. It was a fun read.

I cant sleep!

I cant sleep, this book has Me wraped up and it has Me checking My childs closet for the source of every unknown noise! This is a great book! Funny in some parts and scary in others it is just a great book to lose one self in! It is Dean Koontz at His best! Also to those that need a good to great reader, this one is pleasent on the ears so do not fear! I have read 20 something of His books and this one is at the top with a few others!

One of his best

I really liked this book. So much so, I purchased the hard cover for my son, who also likes Koontz. It was hard to turn it off, once you started listening.

ok book

This book started out too fast, everything happen real fast. Once I caught up, I enjoyed the book, a little more graphic then I like as far as what happens to victims. But ok to listen to, the reader did a great job.

Good Listen! Enjoyed

Long Drive Saver!
Downloaded this book to listen to on a long drive and I'm so glad I did. It was funny at times. Light plot and moved at a good pace. Held my interest and I enjoyed it.

Good but not Great

I am a big Koontz fan. With that said I have not been wowed with the last few offerings by Dean, this included. The work is good but not at the level of the other works of an eariler time. This is a fun summer listen but you will not connect to anyone in this work like you may have in other Koontz books. I am waiting for the next installment of Frankinstein which was the last think I listened to that I really loved.

Great story

It had been a long time since I read this one. I’m so glad I found it again and decided to purchase the audiobook. With Koontz books you’ll always have the fast paced action so the humor in this is surprising and priceless! I found myself laughing aloud a lot during the conversations of this quirky family. What a joy! Truly worth listening to. The narrator did a remarkable job.
