Publisher's summary

The start of a major career! A gripping, highly commercial espionage thriller written with the delicious insider detail and up-to-the-minute insight only known to a veteran CIA spook.

In today's Russia, dominated by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, state intelligence officer Dominika Egorova struggles to survive in the cast-iron bureaucracy of post-Soviet intelligence. Drafted against her will to become a "Sparrow" - a trained seductress in the service, Dominika is assigned to operate against Nathaniel Nash, a first-tour CIA officer who handles the CIA's most sensitive penetration of Russian intelligence. The two young intelligence officers, trained in their respective spy schools, collide in a charged atmosphere of tradecraft, deception, and inevitably, a forbidden spiral of carnal attraction that threatens their careers and the security of America's valuable mole in Moscow.

Seeking revenge against her soulless masters, Dominika begins a fatal double life, recruited by the CIA to ferret out a high-level traitor in Washington - hunt down a Russian illegal buried deep in the U.S. military and, against all odds, to return to Moscow as the new-generation penetration of Putin's intelligence service. Dominika and Nathaniel's impossible love affair and twisted spy game come to a deadly conclusion in the shocking climax of this electrifying, up-to-the minute spy thriller.

Love having the Russians back!

How I have missed the days with the Russian/Soviet characters in spy novels. This book kept me thoroughly entertained and was reminiscent of a great Robert Ludlum book. Russian spies are so much more interesting than the middle eastern bad guys in most current books. Recommend this book highly, wishing the author had another book on Audible!

A classic spy thriller by a master of the craft

Jason Matthews did a spectacular job with his debut novel, Red Sparrow, landing himself a quick movie deal. Red Sparrow is a classic within the spy thriller genre. Matthew’s genuine knowledge of “tradecraft” is on display here. His 33 years in CIA managing foreign agents gave him the bonafides. What spy writer can match that, apart from someone like John Le Carré. Like Le Carré, Matthews also shows he can write thriller fiction with all the elements of pacing, tension, character development, and narrative description. It’s a pity that both giants within the genre are now gone. Excellent narration by Jeremy Bobb.

Compelling story

I enjoyed the story. It was very moving and the characters are all very well developed. It is quite graphic in both the sexual and violence department. This was more than I enjoy and a novel.

Superb espionage story.

Absolutely outstanding. Fiction that is entirely true. Kudos. Beginning of a trilogy (or more) of cloak & dagger enjoyment.
