another thriller!
the narrator is not the best but after several books I've gotten used to him. the story itself is thought-provoking and had a very interesting conclusion. I will definitely listen to more books, even with the same narrator.

One of my favorites.
Great book written before 911. A good insight not only into the SOF world but into the general military mindset. If nothing else shows you whats happens when you poke a bear with a stick and there are no bars between you and he.

What a difference a narrator makes.
Overall, Tom Clancy delivers a fantastic narrative, thay is simultaneously down to earth and realiatic.
However, as much as I loved the story, it was close to impossible to follow what was happening at times because of the narrators monotone, emotionless delivery. The quick transitions that took us from one scene to another across the world, were indistinguishable from the last sentence spoken. As I was listening to the unabridged version, I can honestly say that it took me close to 15 hours of this 35 hour book, to finally be able to pick up when a transition was happening.
That being said, the narrator still did a well enough job bringing the characters to life, minus the female characters but that is just a limitation of his masculine voice.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys any other of the Tom Clancy books, as it fits that formula to a T. And I would even recommend the unabridged version to those who can only listen for a little while at a time. As the pacing of the book is excellent, and allows for extended sessions, or short ones.
