Publisher's summary

The action begins six days after a series of explosions devastated Washington, D.C., targeting the National Counterterrorism Center and killing 185 people, including public officials and CIA employees. It was a bizarre act of extreme violence that called for extreme measures on the part of elite counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp and his trusted team member, Mike Nash.

Now that the initial shock of the catastrophe is over, key Washington officials are up in arms over whether to make friends or foes of the agents who stepped between the enemy's bullets and countless American lives regardless of the legal consequences. Not for the first time, Rapp finds himself in the frustrating position of having to illustrate the realities of national security to politicians whose view from the sidelines is inevitably obstructed.

Meanwhile, three of the al Qaeda terrorists are still at large, and Rapp has been unofficially ordered to find them by any means necessary. No one knows the personal, physical, and emotional sacrifices required of the job better than Rapp. When he sees Nash cracking under the pressure of the mission and the memories of the horrors he witnessed during the terrorist attack, he makes a call he hopes will save his friend, assuage the naysayers on Capitol Hill, and get him one step closer to the enemy before it's too late.

Once again, Rapp proves himself to be a hero unafraid "to walk the fine line between the moral high ground and violence" (The Salt Lake Tribune) for our country's safety, for the sake of freedom, for the pursuit of honor.

"Flynn demonstrates that he truly understands the psyche of the enemy.... Really scary, so realistic." (BookReporter.com)

There are no bad Vince Flynn books

He was a matter story teller, and his characters jumped from the page. I've read most if not all of the Flynn books and the Mills books . Wonderful thrillers. I'm glad Mills is keeping Mitch Rapp alive.

Dang

It was a very well written book in this series… It had a lot of build up and very good character building which may have gone on a little long but it works but the end? Read it and you will know what I mean

Good as always.

Not quite as thrilling as some of the series, but very entertaining regardless. I particularly liked the multiple locations it bounces between.

Keep them coming Vince...

You have a way with words :-). Even when I see something coming (or think I do) you are able to hang on, hold my attention, and I can see it all come together in the last few words. And you do it with regularity. Thanks. I've only read 10 or so of your books, I'm 76 and a vet and hope to read more about Mitch before I croak!! :-)

The way it should be...

After fighting the self-serving, entrenched, arrogant politicians for so many years it is a fantasy escape to read a story where they get slapped down and truth and justice prevail even if it is the hard way. The ACLU, whacky enviro and pseudo human rights groups and the like are exposed for what they are by Flynn through his patriotic characters. I think that is a major appeal of this and other Flynn books. The plots are interesting, too. I liked this book also because many of the characters are identifiable in today's congress. Flynn shows with examples that relate to current problems in the country today like political correctness and the negative influence of lawyers our overly litigious society. It is a good read, or should I say listen. The narrator is excellent, too.
